Stagecrafters' Summer Stock aims to provide serious high school and college students with a theatrical experience similar to working in professional summerstock. Past cast members come from a variety of local high schools and various colleges such as, NYU Tisch school of the Arts, Carnegie Mellon University, Boston Conservatory, Syracuse University, Ithaca College, Indiana University, Vassar College, Point Park University, Columbia College, Baldwin Wallace College, Ashland University, among others.

Participants in the program have gone on to perform on Broadway (Wicked, Rent, Mama Mia, The Sweet Smell of Success, Nine, Les Miserables, Jesus Christ Super Star) and in national tours (Fame, Titanic, Tommy, Jekyll and Hyde).

About the Show:

While not a commercial success on Broadway, Side Show earned numerous praise from countless critics and was nominated for four Tony awards during the 1998 Broadway season. It continues to be performed regularly throughout the regional theatre circuit, community theatre, colleges and high schools because of its infectious score, its haunting story and its touching message.

Side Show chronicles the lives of Daisy and Violet Hilton, conjoined twin performers in the freak shows, vaudeville and the silver screen. The musical is based loosly on the girls' lives, abstracting and altering many of the facts and realities of their story. These deviations allow Side Show to exist as something more than merely a documentary of the Hilton's lives. It is a story about each and every one of us. It is about the individuals' pursuit of acceptance and love in a world that judges, condemns, glorifies and labels. It is about society's obsession with otherness as a means of elevating one's self. Side Show serves as a mouthpiece for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider and it is a challenge to society to accept the uniqueness and individuality of each and every one of us.
