Radio Host, Renita Jablonski, Makes Some Noise in the Ohio Premiere of Eric Bogosian's Griller
Akron, OH - The Bang and The Clatter Theatre Company presents the Ohio Premiere of Griller, by Eric Bogosian. Performances run from June 9 - July 9, Thu. - Sat. at 8 pm and Sun. at 3 pm. in the Summit ArtSpace Facility, 140 E. Market Street.
All Tickets are $15. All students and seniors "Pay as You Can" for each show. One "Blackout Monday" performance, provided for all regional actors and theatre technicians, will be held on June 19 at 8 pm. Tickets are $7.50 for "Blackout Monday" performances. For ticket reservations call the box office at 330.606.5317. "Dinner and a Show" packages are also available. For more information call the box office or visit www.bnctheatre.com.
Local radio host, Renita Jablonski, takes on the role of the over-worked and under-appreciated sister, Gloria, in Griller. Jablonski formerly hosted "90.3 at 9" on WCPN during her five-year career with the station. She joined WKSU in December 2005, in order to launch a new program, "Your Way Home," which she currently hosts on weeknights from 6:00-6:30 pm.
No stranger to the theatre, Jablonski, spent much of her childhood in Cleveland's Slavic Village performing song, dance, and theatre with the Polish folk group, "Gorale." It was there that she began to realize and appreciate "how culturally diverse and rich in the arts Northeast Ohio is." Jablonski has worked with other Northeast Ohio theatres including: Actors' Summit, Cuyahoga Community College, and the former Bad Epitaph Theatre Company. Griller will be her first show with The Bang and The Clatter Theatre Company. About The Bang and The Clatter Theatre Company, Jablonski says, "It's wonderful to see two young professionals taking a chance and adding a new layer of artistic expression to the area's colorful theater landscape."
Directed by Sean Derry, Griller, a farce that turns the American Dream on its head, is set in a New Jersey backyard on the Fourth of July. Gussie (Tom Harris) and his surgery-sculpted wife, Michele (Susan Speers), are preparing a barbecue to celebrate his 50th birthday. Also attending the gathering are Gussie's sons Terrence (Tony Weaver), a workaholic stockbroker, and Dylan (Justin Tatum), a heroin-addicted artist. Terrence's wife and former swimsuit model, Roz (Alicia Rodis), and their overactive son, Jeremy (Mark Oet), are also present, as well as Gussie's mother, Grandma Betty (Linda Ryan), and sister, Gloria (Renita Jablonski).
When mysterious Uncle Tony (Jim Viront) is added to the mix, what seems to be a typical suburban family gathering turns sinister and deadly as family members are forced to wrestle with the skeletons in their closets and with each other.
