(Cleveland, OH) Good Company: A Vocal Ensemble
presents its Spring Concert, “It’s About Time”, on
Sunday afternoon, June 11, 2006, at 4:00 pm in the
sanctuary of Lakewood Presbyterian Church, 14502
Detroit Avenue at Marlowe, in Lakewood.  Music
director Karen Weaver leads the twenty-member mixed
ensemble in Benjamin Britten’s Choral Dances from
Gloriana, and Francis Poulenc’s Chansons Françaises,
as well as music by Ned Rorem, Heinz Werner
Zimmermann, Stephen Chatman, and others.

Special guest artists for this concert are Mary Beth
Ions, violin and Robert Thompson, bass-baritone. 
There is no admission charge for this performance.  A
free-will offering will be taken.
			 
Good Company is a group of experienced singers who
came together in 1995 to study and perform music from
the chamber choral repertoire. Since then, they have
presented several concerts each season, appeared on
the series at St. John’s Cathedral, and issued a
recording, A Rose E’er Blooming, which features music
for Advent and Christmas and is available at the
group’s concerts.

The ensemble’s name was inspired by the text of
"Pastime With Good Company," a tune 
composed by Henry VIII of England. The name seems
particularly fitting in light of the prevailing
atmosphere at all of the group’s gatherings. While
many of the singers hold degrees in music or perform
professionally, most are engaged in professions other
than music. Motivated by a love for choral music, they
share an interest in programming and casting a mature
light on a repertoire which is rarely heard outside of
an academic setting.

Music director Karen Weaver holds degrees in voice
performance and choral conducting from Wittenberg
University and Cleveland State University. She has
been the director of the Cleveland Messiah Chorus, a
soloist with the Bach and Handel Society, and a member
of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, the Canton Symphony
Chorus, and the Choral Arts Society of Cleveland. She
has held Director of Music posts at several area
churches; she currently serves as chancel choir
director at Lakewood Presbyterian Church. She is also
artistic director of Windsong, Cleveland’s Feminist
Chorus.
