            LISA LOEB

  Thursday, June 8
8:00 PM
Over the years, Lisa has engaged the world through her work in music, film and television and now with her 8-part series, Lisa takes a further leap sharing her experiences as she moves back to New York and dips her toe into the dating pool for the first time since college. "I decided to do this TV series because what I do as a musician and songwriter is connect to an audience, so why not take that to another level," says Loeb. No doubt with #1 Single, Lisa will continue to give her fans a trip through the world as only she sees it.
Raised in Dallas, Texas, deeply immersed in the arts, Loeb studied piano and music theory and wrote her first original songs with lyrics while still in her early teens. She earned her degree in comparative literature from Brown University, where she experienced her first taste of musical success with the duo, Liz and Lisa. In the early '90s, Loeb moved to New York where she became a favorite on the Manhattan club circuit and surrounded herself with like-minded young musicians, actors and writers.
In 1993, Loeb's New York neighbor and pal Ethan Hawke recommended her to Reality Bites director Ben Stiller, who in turn included "Stay" on the hit film's soundtrack. Confirming Loeb's prodigious talents, the Platinum-selling "Stay" earned both a Grammy nomination and a "Best New Artist" Brit Award and resulted in a record deal with Geffen Records.
Making good on her successful debut single, Loeb followed with acclaimed CDs, including her Gold-certified debut Tails (1995) and its follow-up, the Grammy-nominated, Gold-certified Firecracker (1997). In 2002, Loeb ushered in the new millennium with a pair of CDs, Cake And Pie and Hello Lisa. Reuniting with her college music partner, Elizabeth Mitchell, she created the childrenÕs CD and companion board book Catch The Moon, released in 2004. Most recently, Lisa crafted a recording sculpted from recent events and her own experiences. The Way It Really Is (2004) that offered listeners a deeply personal musical journey.
Coinciding with her new television show, Universal Music Enterprises is releasing The Very Best Of Lisa Loeb (2006). Featuring 18 selections, the record includes a selection of songs off five albums from 1995 to 2004, from the orchestral "Furious Rose" to the rocking "Fools Like Me" to the stripped-down acoustic "Sandalwood," as well as the most memorable tracks from her career to date. A special addition to the collection is "Single Me Out," the theme song to the TV series. The literary Loeb also penned the album's liner notes.
Loeb's additional television credits include her own series for Food Network Dweezil and Lisa, a weekly culinary adventure that debuted in January 2004 and showcased the pair's passion for food, cooking and music. Other TV appearances include The Chris Isaak Show, and The Drew Carey Show. Loeb starred in her first feature film role, opposite Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush in the movie House On Haunted Hill in 1999. In 2003, Loeb gave voice to Spiderman's gal pal Mary Jane in MTV's animated series Spider-Man.

        DRUHA TRAVA

  Saturday, June 10
8:00 PM
Druha Trava is not your average bluegrass band. The group, whose name means "Second Grass," was formed in 1991 in the Czech Republic. Their musical heritage comes from a place far from the Appalachian communities where bluegrass originated.
Since its formation, Druha Trava has achieved star status in their Czech homeland and the group is one of the most awarded and internationally acclaimed European bands. Each of the five members is a masterful multi-instrumentalist whose influences include bluegrass, jazz, rock, country, folk and classical music.
Druha Trava was co-founded by Robert Krestan, the group's lead singer and principal writer. In the Czech Republic, Krestan is recognized as one of the premiere stars of bluegrass and country music. He credits the "tramp movement" with the extraordinary popularity that bluegrass music is presently enoying in his country. (In the Czech Republic, the expression "tramp music" refers to an ever-evolving style that combines such Western influences as swing, country and bluegrass.)
Krestan explains that this affinity for Western music was inspired further by Pete Seeger who toured Czechoslovakia in 1962 and introduced the 5string banjo to a population that was unfamiliar with the instrument. As a result of Seeger's musical ambassadorship, many musicians began to play stringed instruments, learn the melodies of traditional American folk and bluegrass songs and adapt Czech lyrics to fit the melody lines. Robert Krestan and Druha Trava are expanding that trend by performing songs in both Enghsh and Czech languages.
Druha Trava came together in 1991, and have become known as one of the most successful international "bluegrass" bands of all time. They have been voted Band of the Year by the Czech Recording Industry (formerly Czech "Grammy" awards), as well as by the Banjo Jamboree Festival in Strakonice. In addition to Krestan, Druha Trava includes the following members: Lubos Malina (banjo player and co-founder, who Dirty Linen Magazine describes as "unquestionably one of the best banjo players in Europe"), Lubos Novotny (Dobro), Martin Ledvina (guitar), and Jiri Meisner (bass).
Individually, each of these musicians has received numerous yearly awards as Instrumentalist of the Year on his respective instrument. Together, they have created their own exciting brand of progressive bluegrass which has made them one of the best selling bands of any genre in the Czech Repubhc, and has earned them appearances or recording collaborations with Ricky Skaggs, Tony Trischka, Bela Fleck, Peter Rowan, Andy Owens and the Irish superstar, Davy Spillane.
Czechmate, Druha Trava's sixth album and first US release, should further establish the band as one of the foremost progressive bluegrass groups performing today.

        WIZARDS OF THE
ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Featuring
  Stephen Bennett,
  Todd Hallawell & Brian Henke

  Friday, June 23
8:00 PM
Stephen Bennett was born in Oregon, grew up in New York and has lived in Virginia for the better part of the last three decades. Since his 1987 win at the National Flatpicking Championship in Winfield, Kansas (The Walnut Valley Festival), he has become known as a versatile and original guitarist who consistently garners critical praise and audience enthusiasm for his recordings and live performances.
With his stellar musicianship, a relaxed stage presence and quick wit, Stephen has performed throughout the United States, as well as in France, England, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Holland, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. He has appeared on A Prairie Home Companion. With a dozen self-produced CD recordings to his credit at this writing, a new Stephen Bennett recording is probably in the works.
Aside from his work on the six-string guitar, Stephen is also one of the world's premiere performers on the Harp Guitar, an instrument he inherited from his great-grandfather. As a composer and arranger, he has created an enduring repertoire and a significant body of recorded work for this instrument. He organized and hosted the world’s first harp guitar convention – the Harp Guitar Gathering – held November 2003 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Slide work on his1930 National resophonic steel guitar is also an important part of Stephen's instrumental diversity.
The image of Stephen Bennett embracing his harp guitar is the one that tends to linger. The fact that Stephen is only too happy to champion the cause of the harp guitar may inadvertently obscure his abilities on the six-string instrument. In what is becoming known as the Golden Age of Guitar Luthiery (guitar-making), it's easy to overlook the fact that this is also the Golden Age of Guitar Playing. With six strings or more, as one of the most original and prolific composers and arrangers for the guitar on the current scene, Stephen Bennett is clearly a part of the latter heritage. Official Stephen Bennett Website
Todd Hallawell is a classically trained guitarist who, for many years, has produced and engineered music for the Soundset Recordings label where he is co-owner. He has recorded and produced internationally known solo artists, as well as full orchestras. Encouraged by his clients, wife, and friends to return to performing, Todd began entering competitions. In 1997, he won several in a row, most notably the Southwest Regional Fingerstyle Championship in Tucson, Arizona, and the prestigious National Fingerpicking Championship at Winfield, Kansas. In addition to having been a clinician for Lowden Guitars, he has become a regular performer at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society (CAAS) in Nashville, as well as other music festivals in the U.S. and abroad. ToddÕs exceptional musical range has become well known throughout the music world and his compositions have been selected for both film and theatrical presentations. His CD ÒBefore My TimeÓ has won critical acclaim. As of
2004, Todd has joined legendary singer/songwriter Randy Sparks (New Christy Minstrels) and is now touring with the band.
Todd holds a Bachelor of Music degree in performance from Sacramento State University and has continued his education with graduate studies at Arizona State University. In 1992 he was awarded a full one-year vocational scholarship from Rotary International serving as a "Good Will Ambassador" to Great Britain. There, he studied guitar with Gordon Crosskey (Royal Northern College of Music), composition with John Duarte in London, and recording engineering with Keith Andrews of Amazon Recording Studios (now Parr Street Studios) in Liverpool. On his return, he founded Soundset Recordings with Frank Koonce, (Guitar Professor at ASU) and has subsequently produced more than 50 recording projects. Official Todd Hallawell Website
Brian Henke composes and performs his music like a painter putting images on canvas. His unique guitar style has been called everything from Folk to New Age to Neo-Classical to Pastoral or as Brian likes to call it "a big stewpot of everything stirred up, simmered and served to taste." His music appeals to anyone who likes their music, lyrical, thought provoking and performed with virtuosity. Through it all is an undercurrent of spirituality and mysticism that Brian says is very much apart of the creative process. Because of this he has received radio air play on shows as varied as WKSU's "Folk alley" and John Dilberto's "Echoes". He has also shared the bill on the concert stage with acts as diverse as "Yes", "Linda Ronstadt", "Steve Morse", Yngvie Malmsteen", "Robin and Linda Williams", "Ritchie Havens", "Christine Lavin","The Kingston Trio", "Glen Yarborough", "Alison Brown", "Adrian Belew" and many of the best acoustic guitarists in the world including "Pete
Huttlinger","Alex DeGrassi", "Stephen Bennett", "John Doan", Beppe Gambetta", "Dan Crary" and many, many others. A winner of several Northeast Ohio Music Awards, he has also been a finalist in the National Fingerstyle Contest in Winfield, Kansas and the National Guitarmageddon regional finals in Boston. ROGER McGUINN

  Saturday, June 24
8:00 PM
As the frontman of the Byrds, Roger McGuinn and his trademark 12-string Rickenbacker guitar pioneered folk-rock and, by extension, country-rock, influencing everyone from contemporaries like the Beatles to acolytes like Tom Petty and R.E.M. in the process. James Joseph McGuinn was born on July 13, 1942, in Chicago, where by his teenage years he was already something of a folk music prodigy. After touring with the Limelighters, in 1960 he signed on as an accompanist with the Chad Mitchell Trio, appearing on the LPs Mighty Day on Campus and At the Bitter End; frustrated with his limited role in the group, he soon joined Bobby Darin's group when the singer moved from pop to folk.
After appearing on sessions for Hoyt Axton, Judy Collins, and Tom & Jerry (soon to be known as Simon & Garfunkel), McGuinn began playing solo dates around the Los Angeles area, where he soon formed the Jet Set with area musicians David Crosby and Gene Clark. After a failed single under the name the Beefeaters, the group recruited bassist Chris Hillman and drummer Michael Clarke, changed their name to the Byrds, and set about crystallizing McGuinn's vision of merging the poetic folk music of Bob Dylan with the miraculous pop sounds heard via the British Invasion. McGuinn was the only member of the Byrds to play on their landmark debut single "Mr. Tambourine Man," but his jangly guitar work quickly became the very definition of the burgeoning folk-rock form; still, despite the Byrds' immediate success, both commercially and critically, the group was plagued by internal strife, and following the release of their 1968 country-rock breakthrough Sweetheart of the Rodeo, McGuinn
was the only founding member still in the band.
Under the direction of McGuinn -- who had changed his first name to Roger after a flirtation with the Subud religion -- the Byrds soldiered on, delving further and further into country and roots music before finally dissolving in February 1973. That same year, McGuinn issued his self-titled solo debut, an ambitious, eclectic affair which explored not only folk and country but surf and even space rock. 1974's Peace on You and 1975's Roger McGuinn & His Band preceded a stint with Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue, which helped revitalize his standing within the musical community. 1976's Cardiff Rose was regarded as his best solo effort to date, but the next year's Thunderbyrd, which featured a cover of Tom Petty's "American Girl," failed to connect with audiences.
In late 1977, McGuinn reunited with Byrds mates Chris Hillman and Gene Clark; the resulting LP, 1979's McGuinn, Clark & Hillman, notched a Top 40 pop hit with the McGuinn-penned "Don't You Write Her Off." Midway through recording the follow-up, 1980's City, Clark departed, and the album was released under the name "Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman Featuring Gene Clark." Following another effort, 1981's McGuinn/Hillman, they went their separate ways. After undergoing another religious conversion, this time becoming a born-again Christian, McGuinn spent the remainder of the 1980s without a recording contract and performing solo dates.
The appearance of a faux Byrds led by Michael Clarke prompted McGuinn to reform the group with Hillman and David Crosby in 1989, resulting in a series of club performances, an appearance at a Roy Orbison tribute, and a handful of new recordings for inclusion on a box set retrospective. In 1991 -- the same year the Byrds were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -- McGuinn issued his first new solo recordings in over a decade, the all-star Back to Rio, which was met with great public and critical acclaim. Live From Mars, a retrospective of songs and stories, appeared in 1996. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

Known for their affectionately ironic takes on real life and love, united by musical zest, art school pasts and daily domestic struggles, Marti and Amy invite special guests and audience members to join in as they swap songs, relationship advice & rock n roll war stories. Marti Jones broke out of the early 80's new wave scene to create some of the most original trend-setting and influential albums of that era. Marti's distinctive but familiar voice has the rare ability to circumvent the
artifice of a song and cut straight to the core. With seven solo albums and dozens of songs for movies, TV and various collections, her body of work resonates with the tone of her generation. Amy Rigby has been called "Germaine Greer with a guitar and a sense of humor" - MOJO and "one of rock's most distinctive and consistently excellent songwriters" - Washington Post. Hailed for her keen eye and sharp wit in tracing the vagaries and victories of modern romance, she has released 5 solo albums and an anthology.</DIV> <DIV align=center><A href="http://www.amyrigby.com/" target=new_window>Official Amy Rigby Website</A></DIV> <DIV align=center><B><FONT color=#990000>Advance discount tickets: $10.00<BR></FONT></B><B>Day of Show: $12.00</B></DIV> <DIV align=center><B><A href="http://www.ticketweb.com/user/?region=oh&query=schedule&venue=kentstage" target=new_window></A></B></DIV></TD> <TD class=dataLbl vAlign=top align=left> <DIV align=center> </DIV> <DIV

Since his 1987 win at the National Flatpicking Championship in Winfield, Kansas (The Walnut Valley Festival), he has
become known as a versatile and original guitarist who consistently garners critical praise and audience enthusiasm for his recordings and live performances. </DIV> <DIV align=left>With his stellar musicianship, a relaxed stage presence and quick wit, Stephen has performed throughout the United States, as well as in France, England, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Holland, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. He has appeared on A Prairie Home Companion. With a dozen self-produced CD recordings to his credit at this writing, a new Stephen Bennett recording is probably in the works. </DIV> <DIV align=left>Aside from his work on the six-string guitar, Stephen is also one of the world's premiere performers on the Harp Guitar, an instrument he inherited from his great-grandfather. As a composer and arranger, he has created an enduring repertoire and a significant body of recorded work for this instrument. He organized and hosted the world’s first harp guitar convention – the Harp
Guitar Gathering – held November 2003 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Slide work on his1930 National resophonic steel guitar is also an important part of Stephen's instrumental diversity. </DIV> <DIV align=left>The image of Stephen Bennett embracing his harp guitar is the one that tends to linger. <A href="http://www.harpguitar.com/" target=new_window>Official Stephen Bennett Website</A></DIV> <DIV align=left><B>Todd Hallawell</B> is a classically trained guitarist who, for many years,
has produced and engineered music for the Soundset Recordings label where he is co-owner. As of 2004, Todd has joined legendary singer/songwriter Randy Sparks (New Christy
Minstrels) and is now touring with the band.</DIV> <DIV align=left>Todd holds a Bachelor of Music degree in performance from Sacramento State University and has continued his education with graduate studies at Arizona State University. <A href="http://www.toddhallawell.com/" target=new_window>Official Todd Hallawell Website</A></DIV> <DIV align=left><B>Brian Henke</B> composes and performs his music like a painter putting images on canvas. His unique
guitar style has been called everything from Folk to New Age to Neo-Classical to Pastoral or as Brian likes to call it "a big stewpot of everything stirred up, simmered and served to taste." His music appeals to anyone who likes their music, lyrical, thought provoking and performed with virtuosity. Through it all is an undercurrent of spirituality and mysticism that Brian says is very much apart of the creative process. Because of this he has received radio air play on shows as varied as WKSU's "Folk alley" and John Dilberto's "Echoes". He has also shared the bill on the concert stage with acts as diverse as "Yes", "Linda Ronstadt", "Steve Morse", Yngvie Malmsteen", "Robin and Linda Williams", "Ritchie Havens", "Christine Lavin","The Kingston Trio", "Glen Yarborough", "Alison Brown", "Adrian Belew" and many of the best acoustic guitarists in the world including "Pete Huttlinger","Alex DeGrassi", "Stephen Bennett", "John Doan", Beppe Gambetta", "Dan Crary" and many, many
others. A winner of several Northeast Ohio Music Awards, he has also been a finalist in the National Fingerstyle Contest in Winfield, Kansas and the National Guitarmageddon regional finals in Boston. James Joseph McGuinn was born on July 13, 1942, in Chicago, where by his
teenage years he was already something of a folk music prodigy. After touring with the Limelighters, in 1960 he signed on as an accompanist with the Chad Mitchell Trio, appearing on the LPs Mighty Day on Campus and At the Bitter End; frustrated with his limited role in the group, he soon joined Bobby Darin's group when the singer moved from pop to folk.</DIV> <DIV align=left>After appearing on sessions for Hoyt Axton, Judy Collins, and Tom & Jerry (soon to be known as Simon & Garfunkel), McGuinn began playing solo dates around the Los Angeles area, where he soon formed the Jet Set with area musicians David Crosby and Gene Clark. McGuinn was the only member of
the Byrds to play on their landmark debut single "Mr. Tambourine Man," but his jangly guitar work quickly became the very definition of the burgeoning folk-rock form; still, despite the Byrds' immediate success, both commercially and critically, the group was plagued by internal strife, and following the release of their 1968 country-rock breakthrough Sweetheart of the Rodeo, McGuinn was the only founding member still in the band. </DIV> <DIV align=left>Under the direction of McGuinn -- who had changed his first name to Roger after a flirtation with the Subud religion -- the Byrds soldiered on, delving further and further into country and roots music before finally dissolving in February 1973. That same year, McGuinn issued his self-titled solo debut, an ambitious, eclectic affair which explored not only folk and country but surf and even space rock. 1974's Peace on You and 1975's Roger McGuinn & His Band preceded a stint with Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue, which
helped revitalize his standing within the musical community. 1976's Cardiff Rose was regarded as his best solo effort to date, but the next year's Thunderbyrd, which featured a cover of Tom Petty's "American Girl," failed to connect with audiences.</DIV> <DIV align=left>In late 1977, McGuinn reunited with Byrds mates Chris Hillman and Gene Clark; the resulting LP, 1979's McGuinn, Clark & Hillman, notched a Top 40 pop hit with the McGuinn-penned "Don't You Write Her Off." Midway through recording the follow-up, 1980's City, Clark departed, and the album was released under the name "Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman Featuring Gene Clark." Following another effort, 1981's McGuinn/Hillman, they went their separate ways. After undergoing another religious conversion, this time becoming a born-again Christian, McGuinn spent the remainder of the 1980s without a recording contract and performing solo dates. </DIV> <DIV align=left>The appearance of a faux Byrds led by Michael
Clarke prompted McGuinn to reform the group with Hillman and David Crosby in 1989, resulting in a series of club performances, an appearance at a Roy Orbison tribute, and a handful of new recordings for inclusion on a box set retrospective. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide</DIV> <DIV align=center><A href="http://www.ibiblio.org/jimmy/mcguinn/index.html" target=new_window>Official Roger McGuinn Website</A></DIV> <DIV align=center><B><FONT color=#990000>Advance discount tickets: $20.00<BR></FONT></B><B>Day of Show: $25.00</B></DIV> <DIV align=left><B><A href="http://www.ticketweb.com/user/?region=oh&query=schedule&venue=kentstage" target=new_window></A></B></DIV></TD>
