FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - June 8, 2006

Over a hundred years ago New Orleans saw the birth of an ingenious blend of
music known as jazz. With its "melting pot" of musical styles from all over
the world, jazz has a universal appeal that few can resist.

The quiet village of Madison will soon swing with the smooth syncopations of
this truly American invention as the 2nd Annual Madison Jazz Festival brings
some of Northeast Ohio's finest jazz musicians to Stanton Park situated on
the beautiful shores of Lake Erie.

Sponsored by Rabbit Run Community Arts Association, the festival runs for
two days, Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25. Twelve hours of
back-to-back entertainment are planned for this great event. Kicking off
the festival on Saturday from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. is the Demetrius Steinmetz
Trio as they return with their mellow blend of contemporary pop music.

New to the festival this year is the popular pianist Joe McBride. Blind
since adolescence, this talented African American musician has not let his
impairment slow him down having produced seven CDs in so many years. His
signature keyboard sound is inspired with exotic influences from his musical
background including gospel, Brazilian samba, and the music of South Africa.

Topping off Saturday's line up from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. is the David Thomas
Quartet, featuring lead vocalist Pat Harris-Thomas. This jazz ensemble has
been featured at The White House Inaugural festivities as well as performing
at the Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Sunday's line up starts off with the Ed Michaels Quartet. A well-known
local tenor saxophonist, Michaels directs the annual Lakeland Community
College Jazz Festival, the Lakeland Summer Jazz Camp, as well as Lakeland's
all-star high school jazz ensemble, Jazz Impact.

Following the Ed Michaels Quartet is international jazz singer, Debbie
Gifford, performing all styles of music including ballads, swing, Latin, and
rhythm and blues. Gifford has performed at the Allen Theater in the
Playhouse Square Theater complex in Cleveland, was an opening act for the
"Rat Pack Tribute" in Las Vegas, and has performed with the renowned
Cleveland Jazz Orchestra.

Capping off the festival on Sunday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. is the Dave Morgan
Quintet. Morgan is a jazz bassist, composer and arranger who performs
regularly with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and is Assistant Professor of
Jazz Studies at Youngstown State University.

"Last year we booked a number of larger ensembles," said Brint Learned,
co-cordinator of the festival and executive director of RRCAA. "This year
we sought out smaller ensembles who offer a wide range of jazz music, from
rhythm and blues, to swing, or Latin, as well as the classic jazz standards.
So there should be something for everyone."

"An interesting aspect of the performers is most have a Master's degree in
music; and two of our performers have doctorate degrees. These are some
very talented people who have devoted their lives to music and especially
jazz. We are excited about the caliber of music these people will bring to
the festival."

This is an outdoor event, and patrons will need to provide their own
seating. Quiznos Subs will be on site providing food and refreshments. The
festival will be held rain or shine.

Stanton Park is located at 5585 Chapel Rd., Madison, and the gates open both
days at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $7.50/adult or $3.00/children under 12 or
for a two-day pass, $12.00/adult, $5.00/children under 12. Tickets are
available at the door. Call RRCAA at 440-428-5913 for further information.

The 2nd Annual Madison Jazz Festival is sponsored by the Lake County
Visitors Bureau Arts & Culture Fund, The Cleveland Foundation, KeyBank,
Cleveland Magazine, Quiznos Subs and the Ohio Arts Council.
