I recently attended a life-changing event, the second Network of Spiritual Progressives Conference, in Washington, DC. It was coordinated by Tikkun Magazine, and Tikkun means "to heal the world" in Hebrew (something like that). 1200 people gave up a week of their lives and lots of $ in an expensive city in an uncomfortable Unitarian Church to hear some world renown speakers and discuss what we can do as "leftists" to "take America back from the radical right." It was worth second! It was 16 hours a day with Matthew Fox, Sr. Joan Chittister, Andrew Harvey, and many other spiritual lights of the world. It featured the founder of Tikkun, Rabbi Michael Lerner, a brilliant middle aged hippie whose recent book, "The Left Hand of God...Taking America Back from the Radical Right" is amazing! Not an easy read but important stuff. (He also dances a mean reggie!)

I share this with the arts and creative community of Cleveland because it behooves every one of us, no matter what our politics, whether left, right or center, to come together and figure out what do we care about? What are our values? What kind of America will we leave for our children? The artists and cultural creatives have always been the leaders from the heart. We need you now!

Rabbi Lerner has a short document called "The Spiritual Covenant with America".
You can find it by googling Network of Spiritual Progressives. Yes, unbelievers are welcome. It is not about religion at all. Anyone who cares about what is happening in this country and wants to help stop the madness is welcome.

The local meeting (and we are gathering all over the country in small groups to create an agenda to actively change our country) is in Cleveland Heights on June 22nd at 7 pm. If anyone is interested, please email me. But I would google Network of Spiritual Progressives and Tikkun to be sure you get the gist of what we are trying to do first.

One of our goals is to get people as many people involved as possible, particulary those under 30 , since they will be the ones to inherit what we baby boomers did or did not do. Anyone is welcome, but try to bring youth. Many young people know what they want and what they believe, but are rarely asked. They know what they want America to look like...we have to ask them and involve them. The Spiritual Covenant was written by the Rabbi, but can be changed by the network, especially by hearing what the youth have to say.

Please share this with your friends and family. Help us sit down with the "right" and the "left" and anyone in between to find out the visions, dreams and hopes of our breathren. Our prayer is to find a center place where we can agree on some things, and agree to disagree on others, and maybe change some minds and hearts for the better. Let's help to make this country a wonderful place to live again for us middle agers, and leave hope for a good future for our children.

Thanks for allowing me a soap box. Feel free to email me and I am happy to get you more information if the websites don't answer your questions.

I so appreciate this website...what we do without it, my fellow creatives? Thank you Fred, and everyone who participate in NEOHIOPAL.

  Namaste.
