=B3Dawn Falls, The Founding of Franklin Mills, Ohio=B2 tells the story of
early settlement along the banks of the Cuyahoga River in what is now calle=
d
Kent, Ohio. Taking actual quotes from Christian Cackler=B9s =B3Recollections
of an Old Settler=B2, as well as other historical references, the drama
relates the tale of two intersecting cultures.
The play begins in 1806 with the arrival of John Haymaker to a land
abundant in wildlife and native culture. Having arrived for the purpose of
setting up a mill, the Haymakers find this spot to be ideal because of the
flow of the river and its potential for commerce.
Previous to the Haymakers, Heman Oviatt, a whiskey trader who traded
furs with the natives in what is now Hudson, was the white representative t=
o
the area.
Little is known of this time period and =B3Dawn Falls...=B2 attempts to depic=
t
what this area may have been like during the early years of settlement
along these banks of the Cuyahoga River.

We are currently looking for volunteers to assist with the production.
Anyone interested, please contact Gary Lockwood, at 330-903-2055.

Sponsored by The Rotary Club of Kent, The Kent Bicentennial Committee, and
the Ohio Arts Council among others.
