  Shamatha Yoga Description
Shamatha yoga is a simple series of nine yoga postures developed by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche during his retreat in India in January of 2002. They are designed to develop mindfulness as well as loosen the body during breaks from formal sitting meditation.
This particular series of movements stretches the spine forward and back, side to side, and in twisting motions, gently moving the body’s energy. Returning to sitting practice, the meditator feels refreshed and relaxed, allowing the mind to sink deeply and comfortably into the experience of body.
Classical Hatha Yoga Class Description Kyle teaches classical hatha yoga. The class begins with some type of pranayama (breath-work) and moves into Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations), which is an ancient warm-up in the form of breath in conjunction with movements through postures. Then practitioners are guided through a series of yoga asanas (postures), which work on every system of the body by squeezing and stretching specific areas in a specific order. Relaxation is considered just as important as the “work-out” part, which allows the whole body to release tension as well as gain strength and flexibility. The breath is at the center of everything going on in the class and is emphasized throughout. Class ends with at least a few minutes of complete relaxation in stillness, lying on the back.

  Kyle's Bio.
Kyle has been practicing various forms of meditation and yoga for 13 years. His lifelong study of music, particularly voice, prepared him with a practiced understanding of breath-work and rhythm, which are key elements in meditation and yoga. At the age of 21 he learned about the Sivavanda Vedanta Center’s Teacher Training Course (TTC), a one-month intensive Hatha Yoga experience, which prepares students to become teachers. He attended the TTC in September of 2000 in Woodbourne, NY and upon graduation was invited to become an affiliated Sivananda teacher, one of 15 in the United States.
Kyle started teaching on a full-time basis when he returned to Cleveland, teaching as many as 15 classes a week, adults and kids, at many locations such as the YMCA, fitness clubs, elementary and pre-schools, Sivananda Ashram in NY, and started his own yoga studio out of his home, which was called Four Corner’s Yoga.
In the summer of 2004 he and his fiancé, Sabrina, moved to Boulder, Colorado to attend the only Buddhist founded and inspired university on this side of the planet, Naropa University. Their daughter, Emma, was born on March 2, 2006, a beautiful yogini. Kyle is currently studying music, aikido, and contemplative psychology at Naropa, and is teaching yoga through the City of Boulder Rec. Department. Kyle is also regularly attending the Bikram Yoga College of India in Boulder, which has further informed and inspired his yoga practice and teaching.
