celebrating 25 years of success in the midst of a sea of national chain

The Akron Art Museum is again teaming up with the Akron-Summit County =
Public
Libraries and the Hudson Library to bring FREE hands-on art projects for
kids to a branch near you, June 20 through July 25. Architecture is the
focus of this summer=92s program: Children will learn about the Akron =
Art
Museum=92s new building as well as several other local landmarks. Museum
Explainers will present information about architectural pieces and parts =
and
how these relate to a building=92s function and purpose. Children will =
then be
guided through an art activity in which they design their own buildings
using stamps, stencils, construction paper, crayons, markers and other
tempting art supplies. Participants will contribute to the creation of a
large-scale mural of our city which will be placed on display at that
library branch. This program is made possible through generous support =
from
The Sisler-McFawn Foundation, in cooperation with the Akron-Summit =
County

Tope.  Vanishing: The Pastoral Landscape features rural colored pencil
paintings by Rosemary Tope of Bolivar.  Light refreshments will be =

Rosemary Tope has studied art in New York, Ohio and Florida.  While she =

proficient in many media, she has chosen colored pencil as her preferred
medium.  This exhibit focuses on the farms, pastures and bucolic scenery
that is fast becoming the exception rather than the rule in our state.  =
She
has visually preserved landscapes which have been or possibly will be =
taken
over by =91progress=92, be it a housing development or another strip =
mall.  Her
idyllic images pay homage to a way of live that was the backbone of the
state, the country--but is now being replaced by large commercial
conglomerates. =20

Courage invites all artists, especially artists with a disability, to
participate in the annual Courage Cards & Gifts Art Search. We also
encourage children with disabilities to submit entries.

AWARDS:

Selected artists will receive a licensing fee in addition to national

=93WINGS Across the States=94 Benefit Motorcycle Run

The WINGS affiliates in Ohio and Illinois are teaming up with the =
Women=92s
Motorcycle Foundation of New York to present the first Wings Across the
States Benefit Motorcycle Run.  A pancake breakfast will be served to
participants (only) at 8am on Saturday, September 16th at Adventure =
Harley
Davidson, 1465 State Route 39 in Dover. Registration begins at 9am. The =
fee
is $10 per person. A 50/50 drawing will be held, and tickets will be =
sold
for a summer-long raffle to win a Harley Davidson quilt. The group will
depart at 11am and will stop in Pickerington, Ohio to visit the =
non-profit
AMA Heritage Museum; then move on to Harley Davidson, Inc. in Richmond,
Indiana for a complimentary dinner and to rest for the evening.  Early =
on
September 17th, the group will depart from Richmond, IN; visit the =
Cancer
Awareness Park in Indianapolis, IN; and then end the ride at the State
Capitol Building in Springfield, Illinois, where the Closing Ceremony =
will
be held.  One piece of a WINGS puzzle will be added at each stop along =
the
route.

Public Libraries and the Hudson
Library to bring FREE hands-on art projects for kids to a =

is the focus of this summer’s program: Children will learn about =

building as well as several other local landmarks. Museum Explainers =

present information about architectural pieces and parts and how these =
