Weathervane Playhouse Announces

AUDITIONS - OPEN CALL for

August Wilson's FENCES

Weathervane Playhouse will hold OPEN CALL AUDITIONS for August Wilson's =
compelling "slice-of-life" drama, FENCES. Auditions will be held at =
Weathervane Playhouse, 1301 Weathervane Lane (in the Valley off Merriman =
Road) on Sunday, August 20 at 3 p.m. AND Monday, August 21 at 6:30 p.m. =
Auditioners are asked to prepare a short monologue that is not from an =
August Wilson play and be prepared to read from the script. Callbacks =
will be held Tuesday evening, August 22. Rehearsals will begin on =
September 5. We need African-American actors ages 7 - 57.

Director for the production is Terrence Spivey, Artistic Director for =
Karamu Performing Arts Theatre. Last May, Spivey directed the mostly =
star-studded stage reading of Bridgette Wimberly's Saint Lucy's Eyes =
with legendary Rudy Dee and Bill Cobbs at Cleveland Play House. This =
summer he was theatre curator for the second annual Ingenuity, Arts and =
Technology Festival and showcased two Karamu productions during the fest =
- Al Letson's Julius X and Je Franklin's A Hip Hop Aesop.

Fences was the winner of the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for drama and the New =
York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play. Set in the 1950s in =
Pittsburgh, the play centers around Troy Maxson, a natural athlete =
convinced he could have become a professional baseball star, and his =
ideas of fatherhood. A hard-headed but big-hearted man, he is determined =
to protect his son from the indignities and disappointments of his own =
youth, and refuses to allow him to accept a college football =
scholarship.

The Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program with state tax dollars to =
encourage economic growth,

education excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.

Additional Season Sponsors: WKSU, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company
