Sample from Elise Geither:
I=B4m not lying when I tell you his name was Ken Wolf. He was a senior
theater major, had a single with a loft, a bong, and a tarantula. He
had blue eyes, faded so they looked like reversed mirrors in his
head.
First time: I was sitting under the blue lights of the student-run
bar smoking clove cigaretttes. I was in that uncaring mood; classes
hadn=B4t even started. I could sit here and get drunk as hell. I could
lose myself in remembering last year: beer and boys, my soft legs and
feet tangled up in chairs and beds, one special boy I thought I
loved. ...
Sample from Gina Tabasso:
It=B4s Halloween inside your mind
with a black cat curled on your mother=B4s lap
as she gave birth, so you hate all women.
I can=B4t begin to understand the pain of you
because I can=B4t understand what you inflict.
I know you have given me ugly things I don=B4t deserve.
You are the pillow I sit on after surgery,
the live Christmas tree in my home,
the candle I burn to light the way
into a dark tub were I soak incisions.
Yours is the body I thought of
as I touched the body of my ex-boyfriend
who is no longer in love with me ...
Sample from Michael Billings
fell shadow cast
dissipation
hand to mouth
face to hand
unknowingly proceeding
slow of step
retracing steps ...
