Karamu House kicks off its 91st year with a rousing world premiere =
musical,
Otis Sallid's "Gospel! Gospel! Gospel!=94 brought to the attention of =
Artistic
Director Terrence Spivey by Karamu alum and Grey=92s Anatomy star James
Pickens Jr. =93Gospel! Gospel! Gospel!=94 is the inspired creation of =
Broadway
veteran, Otis Sallid and will premiere in Cleveland before beginning a
national tour. The show opens Friday, October 6, 2006 at 8:00 pm and
concludes Sunday, November 5 at 3:00 pm. Tickets information and =

 Otis Sallid's "Gospel! Gospel! Gospel!=94 is an inspirational, =
foot-stomping,
hand-clapping musical revue of gospel music =93from then =91til now.=94 =
The second
in a trilogy that explores the transformative power of Black sacred =
music,
=93Gospel! Gospel! Gospel!=94 begins with the work of gospel pioneer =
Thomas
Dorsey, and then skillfully weaves African-American history with the =
music
of legends like Clara Ward, Mahalia Jackson, James Cleveland, Aretha
Franklin, and other amazing vocalists.  The show will feature a cast of
seven soul-stirring singers, that will make theatre-goers of every
background feel as if they've moved on up a little higher.

"This show is universal," says  Mr. Sallid, an accomplished dancer, =
actor,
choreographer, director, and producer. "The story of gospel is the story =
of
a people=97the story of all people, really=97who've come through =
adversity and
found courage and strength in their unwavering faith."

Mr. Sallid conceived the hit Broadway show Smokey Joe=92s Caf=E9, which =
was
awarded the 1995 Grammy=AE for Best Musical Show Album and honored with =
seven
Tony=AE Awards nominations.  A true Renaissance man, Mr. Salllid has
impressive credits in theatre, film and television. The Harlem native is =
a
Juilliard grad who studied acting and directing at the famed =
Neighborhood
Playhouse.  After traveling the world as a member of the distinguished =
Negro
Ensemble Company, Mr. Sallid began choreographing for television, =
working
with

Debbie Allen on the hit television series Fame.  A recipient of the Bob
Fosse L.A. Choreographers Dance Award for his work on the movie Swing =
Kids,
Mr. Sallid has choreographed numerous projects including Spike Lee films
School Daze, Do the Right Thing, and Malcolm X; the 69th Annual Academy
Awards; the opening live event for Super Bowl XL; and directed and =
produced
more than a dozen national commercials, television shows, and music =
videos.

This is an exciting opportunity for Karamu House, the nation=92s oldest
