  PRESS RELEASE August 7, 2006
New Works Writers Series continues its tradition of bringing to the stage thought provoking African American drama with this production of “Bourbon at the Border” by Pearl Cleage performed at the Toledo Museum of Art’s Little Theater on August 25, 2006 at 8pm. Cast includes actors Grant Walker, Latoya Williams, Jessica Kight and Kevin “Kaz” Smith.
“Bourbon at the Border,” deals with the aftermath of American historical events: A middle-aged couple in mid-1990s Detroit copes with the memory of their experience as young Civil Rights activists, when their attempts to register black voters in Mississippi during the “Freedom Summer” of 1964 met with violent resistance. “Bourbon at the Border’ is a complex, delicate love story. “The play demonstrates the unending love and bond between two beings who are victims of their own dreams for a satisfying and meaningful life,” says director Dr. Imelda Hunt.
Tickets can be purchased for $10 at the door or by calling New Works Writers Series at 419.380.0257 or email director at newworkswritersseries.org.
(NOTE : Cleage is pronounced “kleeg.”)
