B.K. Smith Gallery to open new season August 26

(PAINESVILLE, OHIO) - The B.K. Smith Gallery at Lake Erie College will =
open the 2006/2007 exhibition season with a free reception and the =
unveiling of Here and Elsewhere, an exhibition that explores various =
directions, intersections and a concern for "place" on Saturday, August =
26 from 7-10 p.m.=20

Curated by artist and Youngstown State University instructor Mark =
Keffer, Here and Elsewhere is comprised of a group of 10 artists, =
assembled by Keffer, whose work addresses the complexities of "place".  =
This subject, "possesses many connotative meanings and, as a result, the =
exhibition will present varying points of view, while bypassing overly =
literal depictions of place," says Keffer.  =20

Artists in Here and Elsewhere include:  Kelli Connell (Youngstown), =
Michael Dickas (Cleveland), Leeza Doreian (Brooklyn, NY), Michelle Droll =
(Cleveland), Emily Jacir (Ramallah/New York, NY), Mark Keffer =
(Cleveland), Matthew Kolodziej (Akron), Gudrun Kristjansdottir =
(Reykjav=EDk, Iceland), Paul Sobota (Cleveland) and Susan Umbenhour =
(Oberlin).  These artists explore the theme using a variety of media and =
conceptual approaches.=20

B.K. Smith Gallery is located on the east side of Lake Erie College on =
Gillett Street near Phillips Osborne School. Gallery hours are Monday =
through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday noon-5 p.m. =20
