I just want to express how disturbed I was to see a Pit Bull being offered
for free, and have asked Fred to disallow Free animal postings. Pit Bull
fighting is bad in Ohio, and there are many people who would love to find a
sweet tempered Pit to use as BAIT in the ring, not to mention use to breed
MORE fighters/ring bait.

It is not a wivestail that people take these "free" animals they find on the
net and feed them to their snakes, sell them to animal testing labs, and
various other terrible things I saw while working at the Humane Society that
I will not share here. I will say that most of our favorite dogs were PITS,
including one that was found by our officer being held in air by the neck
and choked at a very young age...we rescued him and he was the absolute
sweetest puppy I ever met.

Please take heart, and spread the word, when you adopt out your pet, put an
adoption fee on it!  I once had to adopt out, and I put a $25 fee in my ad
that I did NOT collect after screening the applicants and feeling good about
them....but having the fee in print gave me SOME assurance that the people
replying to me were serious. Another good practice is setting the fee at the
price of getting the animal spayed or neutered, or even half depending on
where you have it done, then give the animal to its new owner with the shots
included for free, and sit back and feel good that you gave someone a very
healthy, happy pet.  (I wonder if that Pit Bull was neutered???)
