 of the African American church has been an integral part of world history =
and culture for more than a century.  Since the late 19th century=
, The Fisk Jubilee Singers and choirs at other historically black colleges =
and universities have toured the world singing concert spirituals, and Thom=
as Andrew Dorsey popularized the "gospel blues" in the early twentieth cent=
ury.  Since the advent of the freedom songs of the Civil Rig=
hts Era and beyond, this music has served as a vital expression of African =
American religious culture and an important tool for mobilizing groups of s=
ocial activities.  The organizers of the 2006 conference, "African Ame=
rican Sacred Music in World History and Culture," invite proposals for scho=
larly papers or panels and other formal presentations on the music, musicia=
ns, and related organizations and movements.  The list of possible top=
ics includes, but is not limited to:  Spirituals in Antebellum African=
 America, Jubilee Songs and Ring Shout Traditions, African American Hymnody=
 and Hymnals, The Music Programs of the National Baptist Convention , The H=
istory of the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, Protest So=
ngs of the Civil Rights Era, The Influence of Sacred Music on Popular Cultu=
re, Gospel Music in the Global Community, and the music of individual compo=
sers and performing artists, including Charles A. Tindley, Thomas Andrew Do=
rsey, Mahalia Jackson, R. Nathaniel Dett, Jester Hairston, Sallie Martin, J=
ames Cleveland, Richard Smallwood, and Yolanda Adams.  </DIV><DIV>&nbs=

rs, undergraduate and graduate students, vocalists, instrumentalists, and o=

Subject: [NEohioPAL]Seeking Burlesque Show

I once saw some burlesque singers and dancers at Karma Nightclub, but I guess the show is no longer. I need a show like that: several girls singing and dancing in sexy outfits, but not stripping.  It's for a corporate party.
