Beck Center for the Arts

Offers New and Extraordinary Classes for Fall

            Lakewood, Ohio - Beck Center for the Arts has been educating =
and entertaining Greater Cleveland for 75 years.  With classes in =
creative arts therapies, dance, music, theater and visual arts, as well =
as critically acclaimed professional theater productions, the Beck =
Center is Northeast Ohio's Arts Resource.  And, when fall classes begin =
on September 5 look for some new and exciting additions to the schedule.

            The Dance Department offers over 50 dance classes each week =
with an extensive range for varied levels of experience, ability and =
ages (three years to seniors). New this fall, for the intermediate and =
advanced ballet student, is Ballet/Variations.  In addition, Ballroom =
Dancing I, for both teens and adults who are interested in the basic Fox =
Trot, Two-Step, Cha Cha, and Rhumba, will make for an exciting =
eight-week experience.  Then, on Sunday, September 10, a Latin Dance =
master class will be offered  featuring the expertise of Latina =
performer Susana Weingarten Evert.

            In music, the Beck Center is honored to host internationally =
acclaimed pianist and North Ridgeville native, Spencer Meyer for a piano =
recital on Wednesday, November 29.  Dr. Meyer is the 2005 winner of the =
prestigious Christel DeHann Fellowship and laureate in the Cleveland, =
Busoni, Montreal, and New Orleans International Piano Competitions. =20

In addition, Beck Center is the location for the Royal American =
Conservatory Examinations (RACE).  More than 17,000 teachers use the =
RACE program each year, reaching over 100,000 students and families. =
RACE has over 100 years of experience developing curricula and providing =
third-party assessments based on established pedagogical research and =
the highest artistic goals.  By participating in the RACE program, Beck =
Center teachers and students are joining a growing community dedicated =
to bringing the highest quality curriculum and assessment program to =
music education.

In theater this year, the Beck Center will offer a master class and =
performance with Daniel Stein, Dean of Students and Projects Director =
for The Dell'Arte International School of Physical Theatre, in Blue =
Lake, California.  Give your imagination a whack on the side of the =
head!  Discover concrete ways to get beyond "STUCK" when you are =
creating new work. This is a hands-on course in generating new material =
dealing with the emotions of shape and excitement of rhythm. You, the =
artist, will go back to your studio with tangible ideas and a running =
start at building your next project. This work is great for performers, =
directors and teachers or anyone else looking for freedom and =
empowerment in their creativity.

Special Saturday workshops will be offered in visual arts.  Paper =
Marbling Techniques offer students the chance to discover the limitless =
variety and flow of patterns achievable, magically allowing paint to =
float while you create beautiful marbled papers and fabrics to use in =
books, cards, scrap booking, pillows, quilt squares, and appliqu=E9.  =
Painting in Oil and Acrylics for both beginners and experienced =
painters, as well as Watercolors and Collage will be offered as one-day =
Saturday workshops, as well.
