Sorry, but this has not been confirmed. As of right now - word is that no reviews will be written except for special cases. (?!?!?) What is currently being discussed at ABJ is a shift away from reviews and more towards previews for arts and entertainment. And all of the arts beats WILL be rolled into one impossibly big megabeat, obviously cutting back on how many events are actually covered.

It is most certainly true that Kerry Clawson won't have a theater beat anymore and many reporters will be reassigned, forcing them to leave the beats that they truly love and of which they have deep knowledge. Please keep in mind the Beacon Journal will still continue SOME Arts coverage - although it will definitely be much less in column inches than what we've had before.

Please continue to contact the Akron Beacon Journal. From what I can ascertain from letters that I've been copied on, they have been flooded with letters. It's imperative that the letters specify a concern over REDUCED arts coverage. Some letters have stated "No Arts Coverage" which incorrect.

Please send correspondence to ALL of the following people at the Akron Beacon Journal in response to the following:

1) MAJOR cuts in their coverage of arts and cultural events.

2) The possible reassignment of theatre reviewer Kerry Clawson to an entirely new beat

3) A new “no reviews” policy which would limit coverage of all arts events to preview articles only.

Romance, directed by Sean Derry, is an outrageous courtroom farce which roasts the American legal system and reveals the hypocrisy surrounding personal prejudices and political correctness. Wildly hilarious, the play is set in a courtroom in New York City. It's allergy season, and the judge (Ralph Cooley) is popping antihistamines like candy, constantly forgetting whether he's taken them or not. He listens to the case of a Jewish chiropractor (Scott Shriner), who's "a liar", according to his anti-Semitic defense attorney (Tony Weaver). The homosexual prosecutor (Richard Worswick) is having a domestic squabble with his lover (Ryan McMullen), who makes an appearance in court in a leopard-print thong. Outside the walls of the courtroom, a Middle East peace summit is taking place. The court case is completely unrelated, but the defendant and counsel come up with a plan to solve the conflict in the region.
