Lakewood, Ohio - The Beck Center for the Arts presents
Paintings and Prints, an exhibit by Margaret E. Arthur, September 8
through October 22, located in the main building on the Beck Center
campus in Lakewood.

The award-winning artist will display many different
paintings and prints, with one common theme in each of her pieces of
art: shoes.

"In my work, I use complex painterly surfaces to evoke
tensions and moods that suggest a sense of time, place or event," Arthur
describes her exhibit. "Shoe forms are used as metaphors that represent
humanity and become the main characters in my narratives and
psychological landscapes."

Arthur's most recent exhibit, titled Coming Home, was
presented at Artists' Archives of Western Reserve this year. She has
also had numerous exhibits at Cleveland State University, Cuyahoga
Community College, Artists' Archives of Western Reserve, and other
locations in the Cleveland area. Her artwork was also published in 1996
in The Best of Oil Painting, published by Rockport Publishers, Inc.

Arthur taught as an art instructor at The Cleveland
Institute of Art, Cuyahoga Community College, Ursuline College, and
Orange Art Center.=20

The exhibit is free and open to the public Mondays through
Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00
p.m. The Beck Center for the Arts is located just about 10 minutes west
of downtown Cleveland at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood.
