Lakewood, OH - The Beck Center for the Arts is proud to present Sarah
Morton in Hamlet, directed by David Hansen and opening September 29
through October 22 in the intimate Studio Theater.

Director Hansen takes his inspiration from the 1920 silent film starring
Danish silent movie-star Asta Nielsen, in which new elements were
combined with features (and a few lines) familiar from Shakespeare's
version of the legend. The most important of these changes sees Hamlet
made into a female character - a princess forced by her scheming mother
to masquerade as a man; from this follows Hamlet's secret passion for
Horatio and rivalry with Ophelia for his love.=20

"It is a thrill working at Beck Center again," says Hansen.  "There
isn't another theater in town that would take this kind of artistic
risk, and there isn't anyone in Northeast Ohio more qualified to play
the role of Hamlet, in 2006, than Sarah Morton.  So it really isn't much
of a risk at all."

Hamlet is played by Sarah Morton who has performed previously last
season at the Beck Center in the world premiere of Eric Coble's
T.I.D.Y.  The cast also features George Roth* as Polonius, Nicholas
Koesters* as Horatio, Mark Cipra as Claudius, Anne McEvoy as Gertrude,
Joshua D. Brown as Laertes, Rachel Lee Kolis as Ophelia, Brian Pedaci as
First Player, and Scott Donaldson as Second Player.
