The Geauga Lyric Theater Guild Announces Auditions For

YES VIRGINIA, THERE IS A SANTA CLAUS

By Andrew J. Fenady
Directed By Karen O'Baker Porter

Open auditions will be held on Sunday October 8 and Monday October 9 =
from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the Geauga Theater. Call backs on October 11.

In 1896 the New York Sun published an editiorial titled Is There a Santa =
Claus? Written by Sun staffer Frank Church in response to a letter from =
8 year old Virginia O'Hanlon, the editiorial later became a seasonal =
literary classic, reprinted countless times in American newspapers. Yes =
Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus is the partly true, partly fictional =
story behind the editorial, taking place in the cultural melting pot of =
1890s New York City. Full of colorful dialects and personalities, the =
play finds inspiration in the hardships of a city struggling to come of =
age. =20

All roles are available and encompass an age range of 8 - 60. =
Auditioners should prepare a monologue, if possible. For those without =
monologues, readings from the script will be available.

The Geauga Theater is located on Historic Chardon Square, in Chardon, =
Ohio.

>From Jimmy Silver, Owner of The Reel Thing Recording Studios:
"Over the years, Jean's students show up prepared and well-schooled in voice
over technique and understanding of the craft. If you want to start to
develop your skills as a voice over talent, Jean's class is a good place to
start."

>From Some Of My Students:
"I loved working with funny lady Jean Zarzour. She's as entertaining
offstage as she is on, knows the business, and has a terrific ear (and
voice!) Whether you're just beginning or, like me, need to have the rust
polished off your skills, she can take you from printed page to a ready for
prime time MP3 demo tape."
Marje Rody (listed with Docherty Talent Agency )

"I took VO classes from Jean Zarzour for a little over six months. Her
skill and candor have helped me slowly emerge from my reserved shell and
become acclimated to the crazy business of voiceovers and enthusiastic
speech. Thanks to Jean Zarzour's outstanding guidance, colleagues and
acquaintances have noticed a marked difference in my verbal demeanor during
simple occasions such as voicemail messages and general conversation with
clients. That alone has been worth my time and effort!" Coletta West
(see her on www.artistschair.com)

>From Playhouse Sq. Center
"Thank you for making the Extreme Festival an incredible weekend. When I
saw you working with the kids, encouraging them with high expectations, I
knew you had the talent for both putting the show together and making the
kids happy. Although other people could have pulled the weekend off, your
personality and interaction with the kids really made a difference. I can't
wait to work with you again! Thanks again and welcome as one of our favorite
new teaching artists at Playhouse Square!!" Ray Gargano, Education Outreach
Manager, Playhouse Square Center

>From The Beck Center
"I Have had the pleasure of employing Jean Zarzour as a teacher of Film and
Television Acting. She is always prepared and her lesson plans are set well
in advance. Jean is especially adept at the ability to read a student,
assess his or her needs and meet those needs. The students love her. Her
personality works well with kids of all ages, even the old kids like me! I
can whole heartedly recommend Jean Zarzour as a teacher."
Meg Chamberlain, Director of Theater Education 1996-2006

"Jean Zarzour has been part of the Beck Center Education Outreach staff
since 1998. She is a gifted actress and comedienne whom the children
thoroughly enjoy. She is always prompt, well-prepared, responsible and
relates well to children and adults."
Lynda Sackett, Director, Dance Education & Former Director of Education
Outreach
