Arts Collinwood Gallery goes into its second year with an impressive line-up of creative and challenging exhibits. "We have a full year of operating as a community art gallery under our belts -- that means a lot," says Gallery Chair Nancy Prudic. "We've had generous support from the Ohio Arts Council to help make this season strong. And we have a strong artists' community to work with. We can do some really great things."

According to Executive Director Sarah Gyorki, some great things have already started to happen. "The Gallery started this season with a very successful outreach project to the Cleveland Public Schools, the students at the new Memorial School, based on an earlier collaboration with Artist Archives of the Western Reserve. When your space is filled with young people, who are learning about art and are excited about it -- that generates a lot of energy. Overall, this season is characterized by many strong collaborations, and I think that energy will carry right through."

Details of the exhibits running through the end of 2006 are as follows:

  8-16 sept
  TAKE FLIGHT
A collaborative exhibit between artists of
the Artist’s Archives of the Western
Reserve and the Arts Collinwood Summer
Arts Camp. In our innovative summer arts
program, children explored a range of
media, and had the opportunity to work
with some of Cleveland’s most established
artists. The results of this creative
collaboration are notable, as is the range
of talent in the children themselves.
  Free community reception
and artist talk — meet the
  artists, and enjoy light snacks.
  Children welcome.
  fri 8 sept, 6-9pm

  22 sept - 21 oct
  DEGREES OF FRANK. PART I
This group show of work by Cleveland
artists examines how as a community
their common past informs their present
work. Or as artist Frank Green wrote:
“I am often introduced as a local
  performance artist, which for some
reason makes me feel like a character in a
TV sitcom. Just once I would like to be
introduced as a cross between a radar
  detective and a sonic boom.”
  Featured artists: Judith Brandon, Robert
  Banks, Bruce Edwards, Sally Hudak,
  Michael Loderstedt, Jerry Mann, Dennis
  Maxfield, Nancy Prudic, John Ranally,
  Elizzabeth Schiros and Beth Wolfe.
  Curator: Jean Brandt
  Wine and cheese reception
  fri 22 sept, 6-9pm

  3 - 25 nov
  GROVEWOOD DAYS
  Ask about Thanksgiving dinner
  with the artists!
A reunion show, tracking a talented crew
of young artists-to-be of the ‘60s, from
their days hanging out in the Grovewood
environs through their current work. A fun,
nostalgic look at the neighborhood, as
well as a celebration of the tremendous
talent that is nurtured in all the small
pockets of Cleveland where art flourishes.
  Featured artists: Randall Tiedman,
Bob Gmeiner, Gary Dumm, Laura Dumm,
Steve Verba, Dave Verba, Jan Sikorski.
  Wine and cheese reception
  fri 3 nov, 6-9pm

  1-16 dec
  WEEKENDS ON WATERLOO
  HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE
An invitational art sale featuring fine
painting, glass, jewelry and more from
some of the area’s most talented artists.
Shop for one-of-a-kind gifts and enjoy the
unique ambience, with live music, beer,
