New season of Emmy Award-winning arts and cultural series begins
Thursday, October 5, 7:30pm=20

Applause, the Emmy Award-winning WVIZ/PBS ideastreamsm series
highlighting Northeast Ohio arts and cultural activity, kicks off its
new season on Thursday, October 5 at 7:30pm as host Dee Perry welcomes
Red {an Orchestra} to Idea Center's KeyBank Studio. Other featured
highlights for the month include a look at the rich history and
rededication of Cleveland State University's Fenn Tower, conversations
with digital artists Kevin White and Michael Nekic, and a visit to the
Frank Lloyd Wright house at Oberlin College.=20

Now in its ninth season, Applause airs on WVIZ/PBS ideastream Thursdays
at 7:30 pm, with regularly-scheduled repeat broadcasts on Saturdays at
6:30 pm and Sundays at 1pm.=20

The new season of Applause begins with a special in-studio performance
by four members of Red {an Orchestra}. The group's artistic director and
conductor Jonathan Sheffer, joins Applause program host Dee Perry in the
KeyBank Studio at Idea Center to discuss the orchestra's fifth season.
Also making a visit to the Applause studios are David Hansen and Sarah
Morton previewing a production of Hamlet at The Beck Center for the
Arts. Hansen directs the play, which features Morton as Hamlet.=20

This edition of Applause presents a tribute to recently deceased
"outsider" artist Reverend Albert Wagner who was known as "The Black
Moses" of the art world. A selection of this acclaimed artist's work is
reviewed and highlights from an archived Applause interview with Wagner
are also featured. In another Applause segment, Cleveland Heights artist
Cathy Bleck joins program host Perry for an in-studio interview
discussing her work and her new book, "Open Spaces".  The program
concludes with a tour of Cleveland State University's newly restored
Fenn Tower with CSU President Dr. Michael Schwartz showcasing the
building's rich history and the story behind the restoration to its 1929
grandeur.=20

This installment of Applause features the work of two local digital
artists. Kevin White joins ideastream's Bobby Jackson for an interview
about art, life and the car accident that left White a quadriplegic.
With limited use of his hands, White produces art using a personal
computer with special equipment that coordinates the computer cursor
with his head movement. Then, Michael Nekic, who has been a fine art
photographer for the past 30 years, describes his transition into the
digital art world and how his work has evolved.=20

Oberlin and Oberlin College are the focus of this episode of Applause.
In one segment, a tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright house at Oberlin
College takes viewers inside Ohio's first Usonian home - the
Weltzheimer/ Johnson House. Interviews with one of the home's volunteers
and with The Plain Dealer's architecture critic Steve Litt help tell its
story.  The program concludes with a preview of the Oberlin College Jazz
Series and a look the college's Conservatory of Music expansion project.
