Italian Creative Jazz Musicians to Tour Midwest


Acclaimed Italian creative jazz musicians Daniele=20
Cavallanti and Tiziano Tononi will be embarking on=20
a tour of the midwestern United States from October 18th =96 31st.=20=20

Tenor saxophonist Cavallanti and percussionist Tononi are=20
longstanding members of the Italian Instabile Orchestra,=20
a super-group of Italy=92s finest improvisers.  They also=20
lead several projects of their own and play together as the=20
duo Udu Calls.  They have performed and recorded with several=20
major innovators of creative jazz music including:  Cecil=20
Taylor, Dewey Redman, Andrew Cyrille, Roswell Rudd, William=20
Parker, Muhal Richard Abrams, Walter Wierbos, Willem Breuker,=20
Oliver Lake, Leroy Jenkins and many others.

For this tour they will be teaming with the up-and-coming=20
Chicago trio Ways & Means to form the quintet Chicago Udu=20
Calls.   The three members of Ways & Means are Dan Godston=20
on trumpet, Jayve Montgomery on reeds and percussion, and=20
Joel Wanek on upright bass.  Although they are an ocean apart,=20
these five musicians share a common affinity for American jazz,=20
traditional African and Asian music, and European free=20
improvisation.  Together their music will embrace and employ=20
instrumentation, melodies and rhythms from around the world as=20
it creates its own identity.  Each performance is sure to be a=20
different journey than the next.=20=20=20
