Batsheva Dance Company, Israel’s acclaimed modern
dance ensemble, is honoring the Cleveland area with a
performance on Thursday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. at
the Palace Theatre. Batsheva's artistically
innovative style has gained them a reputation as one
of the world’s most inspirational companies.

Sought after around the world, given a choice between
appearing in New York or Cleveland as the site to
start their 2006 American fall tour, DANCECLEVELAND,
the Jewish Community Center of Cleveland and Cuyahoga
Community College worked with Batsheva’s artistic
director Ohad Naharin to insure that the company would
perform on the North Coast.

Batsheva, which will perform “DECA DANCE,” a showcase
of eclectic choreography, was founded in 1964 by
legendary choreographer Martha Graham and Baroness
Batsheva de Rothschild.

Ohad Naharin began his training as a dancer with the
Batsheva Dance Company. A year later at the invitation
of Martha Graham he came to New York. Naharin, who
became an American citizen in 1991, was appointed
Batsheva’s artistic director in 2003. He is
considered one of the world’s great modern
choreographers.

This is the local community’s opportunity to reach out
and welcome this world-class company whose mission is
to stress human values through the power of
creativity.

Tickets for the program, which start at only $15, with
discounts available to seniors, Jewish Community
Center members and youth, are available by calling
800-766-6048 or by going on line to www.tickets.com.
