Cleveland State University.  The recital hall is in the music and=20

=20

communications building, between Chester and Euclid, the entrance is=20

on 21st street.  Ms. Shaffer will be accompanied by Dr. Erik Ziolek,=20

=20

chairman of the music department at Cleveland State University, and

=20

 Special guest artists Alan DeMattia,  hornist with The Cleveland=20

=20

Orchestra.  The performance features Samuel Barber's, Knoxville:=20

=20

Summer of 1913, and arias by Handel, Haydn, Mozart and Dvorak. =20

There will be a reception to follow. =20

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:=20

SHARON SHAFFER- Soprano/Actress

=20

Since making her American Operatic debut at the age of 19, she has=20

=20

gone on to establish herself in leading roles and as a soloist with=20

=20

orchestras and opera companies throughout the United States and=20

=20

Europe and Scandinavia.  Ms. Shaffer attended the University of=20

=20

Michigan, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and Cleveland State=20

=20

University, where she is presently a student of Noriko Fujii-Paukert.=20

=20

Her accomplishments have been recognized with numerous awards=20

=20

including NATS, The Metropolitan Opera Auditions, and The=20

=20

International Young Singer of the Year Competition in Llangollen,=20

=20

Wales. Since moving to Cleveland Ms. Shaffer has made her Cleveland=20

=20

Orchestra debut as a soloist in Schumann's Scenen Aus Goethe's Faust=20

=20

under Franz Welser-M=F6st; Ms. Shaffer made her Severence Hall debut=20

=20

as soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra in the Dvorak=20

=20

Te Deum, conducted by James Gaffigan. Ms. Shaffer has also=20

performed as soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra in=20

Mozart's Coronation Mass with COYO and Mozart's Coronation mass=20

and Requiem with the Cleveland State University Orchestra,  conducted=20
