special one for opera lovers and bel canto aficionados. Acclaimed tenor=20=

Juan Diego Fl=F3rez presents one of only two American recitals this=20
season as part of Oberlin College=92s Artist Recital Series on Sunday,=20=

October 29, 2006, at 3 p.m. He is joined by pianist Vincenzo Scalera in=20=

a program that features arias by Rossini, Mozart, and Donizetti and art=20=

songs by de Morales, Faur=E9, Massenet, and Bizet.
	Later that evening, at 8 p.m., legendary mezzo-soprano Marilyn =
Horne=20
will present the second of two public master classes (the first occurs=20=

on Friday, October 27, at 7 p.m.) The Fl=F3rez recital and the Horne=20
master classes take place in Oberlin=92s historic Finney Chapel.
	Reserved seat tickets for the Fl=F3rez recital are $12 for =
students; $25=20
for seniors and for those with an Oberlin College I.D.; and $30 for the=20=

general public; tickets purchased at the door the day of the=20
performance are an additional $3. General admission tickets for each of=20=

Marilyn Horne=92s public master class are $5 for the general public and=20=

	Tenor Juan Diego Fl=F3rez has emerged as one of today=92s most =
dynamic=20
artists. He has been captivating audiences worldwide with his solo=20
recitals, operatic performances, and orchestral appearances since=20
breaking onto the scene at the 1996 Rossini Festival. There, at the age=20=

of 23, he stepped out of the chorus to take on the leading role in=20
Matilde de Shabran from an indisposed Bruce Ford. Fl=F3rez=92s =
performance=20
caused a sensation, and he has never looked back. Peter G. Davis,=20
writing in New York Magazine, says: =93Fl=F3rez=92s accurate =
articulation of=20
coloratura and the sheer fizz of his passagework, without loss of tonal=20=

quality or definition, take the breath away.=94
	Pianist Vincenzo Scalera has been heard in major music centers =
of the=20
world accompanying such celebrated singers as Carlo Bergonzi,=20
Montserrat Caball=E9, Renata Scotto, and Leontina Vaduva.
	This is Marilyn Horne=92s second year in residence at Oberlin as=20=

Distinguished Professor of Voice. Regarded as one of the great=20
mezzo-sopranos of the 20th century and noted for the power and artistry=20=

of her unique and dazzling coloratura, her remarkable five-decade=20
career is preserved not only by her discography but also by the legacy=20=

she has created as a teacher and mentor. She created the Marilyn Horne=20=

Foundation in 1994 to support young singers and the art of the song,=20
and is vocal program director at the Music Academy of the West in Santa=20=

Barbara, California. Support for her professorship and residency is=20
provided by the Danenberg Residency Fund and the Edgar Visiting Artists=20=

Fund.
