Press release:
Anyone who lived in Northeast Ohio in 1989 remembers the name Amy
Mihaljevic. And anyone living here today should be concerned that her killer
may still be among us.

On October 27, 1989, ten-year-old Amy Mihaljevic was abducted from a public
plaza directly across the street from the police department in Bay Village,
Ohio. Four months later, her body was discovered lying face down in an
Ashland County wheat field, fifty miles away. The case has become one of
Northeast Ohio’s most frustrating unsolved murders.

Now a new book chronicles the crime, the official investigation, and the
author’s own attempt to unravel the mystery.

James Renner, author of Amy: My Search for Her Killer, will present the
first public talk and reading from his new book on Saturday October 21 from
2–3 p.m. at the Cuyahoga County Library, Bay Village Branch; 502 Cahoon Road
in Bay Village.

About the Book
Amy: My Search for Her Killer, is a true-crime memoir filled with strange
riddles, odd coincidences, and a cast of unusual but very real characters.
Renner interviewed FBI agents, Bay Village police, Amy’s family and friends,
neighbors, and even former suspects. He uncovered important new facts about
the case, among them that Amy had most likely been kept alive for days or
even weeks after her abduction, and that other girls in the area might have
been targeted by the same predator.

Renner believes that what he found out about Amy’s abduction and murder
while writing his book serves as a cautionary tale of the dangers that exist
in even the most comfortable suburbs. “I learned that a place like Bay
Village can on the outside look perfect,” Renner said. “But, like any town,
when you start turning over rocks you see some really dark things
underneath.”

About the Author
James Renner is a staff writer for the Free Times, a Cleveland alternative
weekly newspaper. His film adaptation of a Stephen King story was an
official selection at the 2005 Montreal World Film Festival. A graduate of
Kent State University, he lives in Akron, Ohio.
