G.  B. Shaw=E2=80=99s=20
ARMS AND THE  MAN=20
Actors=E2=80=99 Summit Theater announces the opening of Arms and the Man, =20=
the=20
classic anti-war, pro-romance comedy that first took the stage in 1894. Fea=
turing=20
the talents of perennial favorites Dorothy & Reuben Silver, the cast includ=
es=20
Actors=E2=80=99 Summit company members Sally Groth, Dana Hart, Alicia Kahn,=
 and Bob=20
Keefe. Two newcomers, Joe Bishara and John Galbreath complete the cast. The=
=20
play will have a preview performance on November 2, and will play through=20
November 19 at Actors=E2=80=99 Summit Theater in downtown Hudson. The play i=
s performed =20
Thursday, Friday, & Saturday at 8 PM and Sundays at 2 PM.=20
The Play =20
The play opens in the bedroom of Raina Petkoff (Alicia Kahn), a girl who ha=
s=20
just learned of her handsome fianc=C3=A9s=E2=80=99 valiant and successful c=
avalry charge.=20
With stars in her eyes and her head in the clouds, Raina prepares for bed a=
s=20
gunfire erupts in the street below her window. Captain Bluntschli (Dana=20
Hart), a desperate Serbian army officer fleeing for his life, takes refuge=20=
in=20
Raina=E2=80=99s bedroom. Bluntchli recounts the foolhardy cavalry charge of=
 a  handsome=20
soldier, Raina=E2=80=99s own Major Sergius Saranoff (Joe Bishara). Raina is=
 shocked=20
by Captain Bluntchli=E2=80=99s view of the absurdities of battle, but she h=
ides him=20
from his pursuers and feeds him her last candy =E2=80=93 chocolate creams.=20=
Raina=20
pledges her protection, and with the help of her mother, smuggles her =E2=
=80=9Cchocolate=20
cream soldier=E2=80=9D out of the house in her father=E2=80=99s favorite c=
oat.=20
The war between the Bulgarians and the Serbians is short, and Major Petkoff=

military career, and although he is engaged to Raina, displays a more than =20
passing interest in the beautiful servant Louka (Sally Groth). Louka in turn=
 is =20
engaged to the stalwart steward, Nicola. =20
In his inimitable Shavian way, the author manages to puncture inflated egos=
