Music Faculty Recital -  Solos

Lakewood, Ohio -The Beck Center for the Arts is proud to present a free
music faculty recital on Sunday, November 12 at 3:30 p.m. in the
Music-Armory Recital Hall. =20

The recital will feature solos by the following members of the Beck
Center Music Department faculty - Patricia Knox (violin & viola), B.
Neil Davis (bass-baritone), Berdie d'Aliberti (piano), Bruce Erwin
(violin), Ronald Palka (piano), and Coren Mino (piano).  These talented
musicians will perform compositions by Bach, Beethoven, Faure, Vaughn
Williams, and other classical composers.

These instructors are part of the excellent Beck Center Music Department
faculty.  In addition to Music education, the Beck Center's Arts
Education Program also offers instruction in creative arts therapies,
dance, theater, and visual arts that allows students of all ages to
build a solid foundation in developing their artistic and creative
skills, as well as cultivating some basic life skills.  The Beck Center
Conservatory Programs, in Music and Theater, are unique and intensive
courses of study that offer college preparatory instruction, as well as
performance opportunities designed for serious students and those who
are planning to attend college as Music, Theater or Music Theater
majors.

"Each Beck Center faculty recital provides an opportunity for the
community to hear a variety of pieces from a diverse repertoire," says
Ed Gallagher, Beck's Director of Education and Creative Arts Therapies.
"Our faculty members, with their distinctive styles and varied
backgrounds, provide the audience with a recital experience sure to
capture the ear of many."

Programming at the Beck Center is made possible through the generous
support of The Cleveland Foundation, the George Gund Foundation, The
John P. Murphy Foundation, the Kulas Foundation, and Cox Communications.

This faculty recital is free and open to the public.  It will take place
at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 12 in the Music-Armory Building at the
rear of the Beck Center campus.  The Beck Center is located just 10
minutes west of downtown Cleveland at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood.
Convenient on-site parking is available.=20

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS:

=20

PATRICIA KNOX, violin & viola, has degrees from the Peabody
Conservatory, John Hopkins University and the University of Akron.  She
has taught music in the Cleveland Municipal Schools, and was a strings
artist in residence at Cleveland School of the Arts.  She has served as
principal violist of the Cleveland Chamber Symphony.  She currently
teaches as a string specialist at Lakewood High School and is a member
of the Ashland Symphony.

B. NEIL DAVIS, bass-baritone, holds degrees from Kent State University.
He has taught voice at Cleveland State University and is a member of
MTNA, OMEA, CDA, and NATS.  He is the former Director of Choral Music
Activities at Lakewood  High School.

BERDIE d'ALIBERTI, piano, holds degrees in music from Baldwin-Wallace
Conservatory and the University of North Carolina.  She maintains
continued study with the renowned accompanist and coach, John Wustman.
She has held positions as Coordinator of Collaborative Piano Studies at
B-W Conservatory, and as special lecturer in accompanying at the
University of Akron.  She is presently a staff accompanist at the Beck
Center and organist at First Church of Christ Scientist in Rocky River.

BRUCE ERWIN, violin, holds degrees from the University of Iowa and
Baylor University. He has performed with Ia Or Questa Sinfonica de
Xalapa, Mexico and the Canton Symphony. He has taught at the Capital
Suzuki Institute, TCU Suzuki Institute, Texas and elXII Campamento
Musical Juvenil, Panama.  He was the winner of the 1997 and 1998 Ohio
Scottish Fiddling Championships.

RONALD PALKA, piano, is a member of the piano and conservatory faculties
at the Beck Center. An active and versatile musician, he has performed
with Horizon Concerts in New York City and with Access to the Arts in
Cleveland. He has appeared as orchestral soloist with the Summer
Symphony Orchestra of Queens and with the Suburban Symphony Orchestra of
Beachwood. Upon completing his Master's Degree in Piano Performance from
the Manhattan School of Music, Palka spent a year in Brazil where he
served as instructor and pianist with the Music Foundation of Capao da
Canoa in Rio Grande do Sul. His students have been awarded competition
prizes with the Canton Symphony Orchestra and in OMTA's Composition
Competition. They have also given premiere performances (broadcast on
Cleveland's WCLV) of works written for them by members of the Cleveland
Composer's Guild. In addition to music, Palka holds a Master's Degree in
Library Science from Kent State University.=20

COREN MINO, piano, studied with her father, Morton Estrin, and later
with Eunice Podis at the Cleveland Institute of Music. After graduating
from CIM, she made her home in the Cleveland area where she lives and
teaches today. Coren has performed in collaboration with her father in
recitals in Cleveland and New York. She is a frequent performer of music
written by contemporary Cleveland and Akron composers in concerts at the
Cleveland Institute of Music, the Cleveland Music School Settlement,
Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory, Cuyahoga Community College, and Lorain
Community College where she has also taught. Coren's music may be heard
on two compact discs:  Frederick Koch Contrasts (Dimension Records) and
Riverside Academy of Music Presents Frederick Koch for Truemedia
Records, Ltd. Of her performance, the  Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote, "A
bit of spikiness can be found in Five Piano Preludes, which Coren Estrin
gives a vibrant workout."

Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, Palka spent a year in =

frequent performer of music written by contemporary Cleveland and =
