TrueNorth Cultural Arts is please to announce SweetStuff Bakery & Catering
as the newest addition to TN occupying the main entrance space to this
popular cultural arts center.
Owners, Terri and Jeff Houdeshell have operated SweetStuff Bakery & Catering
for the past 1-1/2 years from their permitted and inspected commercial
kitchen, located in their home. “This whole business has been guided,” Terri
Houdeshell said. “After undergoing knee surgery and with a 2 month old and a
1-1/2 year old and living in a new home… money was very tight.” A friend
suggested they turn their passion for food and baking into a money making
venture by offering their pumpkin rolls for sale to the public. “We dropped
off samples and order forms to local offices and the next day one of them
called saying they needed another form, because it was full!” recalls Terri.
When all was said and done Terri had to actually turn people away and
scramble to fill the 80+ pumpkin roll orders they already had. “The phone
was ringing off the hook,” exclaimed Terri. After the Thanksgiving pumpkins
rolls were baked and delivered, people began requesting a Christmas menu and
Terri starting putting together cookie trays, gift chocolates, gift tins and
yes…more pumpkin rolls.
On the opposite end of Terri and Jeff’s story, and in the process of
searching for the right people to fill the space formerly occupied by La
Pastericcia, the chain of events that brought SweetStuff to TrueNorth
couldn’t have happened more coincidentally. Executive Director, Rick Fortney
of TrueNorth was participating in the homecoming events at Avon Lake High
School when he ran into former student Terri Houdeshell. Rick was looking
for someone special to carry on the traditions that La Pasticceria began, at
the same time Terri and Jeff were looking for a storefront to replace
business lost when the Farmers Market season had come to a close. “We wanted
to continue to offer an environment that is warm and welcoming as you first
enter the Center,” said Rick “a place that would serve as an atrium type
feel.” This hub so to speak, will serve as a place where parents can visit
and wait for their kids in classes. Choir and symphony members can share in
fellowship before and after practice. Artists can meet and share ideas and
encourage each other; and gallery visitors can stop and relax.
SweetStuff bakery hours will be 12 noon - 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
and 9:00am - 4:00pm on Saturdays beginning November 13th . A grand opening
will be held on November 18th. Terri can be reached at 440-930-2266 or by
email at sweetstuffoh at comcast.net
TrueNorth is located at 33491 Lake Road in the old Saddle Inn, next to the
