Esteemed Artists Jennifer Koh and Reiko Uchida to Present Recital at =20
the Oberlin Conservatory of Music



OBERLIN, OHIO (November 22, 2006)=97Internationally acclaimed violinist =20=

and Oberlin alumna Jennifer Koh and renowned pianist Reiko Uchida =20
will present an Oberlin recital on Friday, December 1, at 8 p.m. in =20
Finney Chapel. In addition, Koh will conduct a chamber music master =20
class and a violin master class on Wednesday, November 29, at 4:30 =20
p.m. and Thursday, November 30, at 5:30 p.m., respectively.

The free concert will include a program featuring Schubert=92s Sonatina =20=

in D Major, D. 384, Poulenc=92s Sonata for Violin and Piano (a la =20
memoire de Federico Garcia Lorca), Selections from Signs, Games, and =20
Messages by Gy=F6rgy Kurt=E1g, Sonata No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 121 by =20
Schumann, and the premiere of Jennifer Higdon=92s String Poetic.

  Oberlin=92s historic Finney Chapel is located at 90 North Professor =20=

Street, across from Tappan Square in Oberlin. Free parking is =20
available throughout the campus.

The two master classes are free and open to the public, and will be =20
held in Kulas Recital Hall, located in the Conservatory at 77 West =20
College Street, near the corner of South Professor and West College =20
streets.

Violinist Jennifer Koh, a 1997 Oberlin graduate, won the =20
International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, the Concert Artists =20
Guild Competition, and the Avery Fisher Career Grant, all in the 1994 =20=

- 1995 season. She has been heard with leading orchestras and =20
conductors around the world, including the Chicago Symphony, the =20
Cincinnati Symphony (under Yakov Kreizberg), the National Symphony, =20
the Detroit Symphony, the New World Symphony, and many other leading =20
ensembles. A prolific recitalist, Koh appears frequently at major =20
music centers and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy =20
Center, Mostly Mozart, Marlboro, and Wolf Trap, and with Christoph =20
Eschenbach at Ravinia and Schleswig-Holstein. She is heard annually =20
at the Spoleto Festival in Italy, where she recorded Menotti's Violin =20=

Concerto live in concert with the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, =20
conducted by Richard Hickox. A committed educator, she has also won =20
high praise for her innovative Music Messenger outreach program, =20
which takes her to perform in classrooms throughout the country. An =20
active recording artist, she has recorded to date a program of =20
chaconnes by Bach, Barth, and Reger for Cedille Records, and =20
recordings of the violin concertos of Menotti (for Chandos), Nielsen =20
(for Kontrapunkt), and Klami (for BIS). Her latest recording on the =20
Cedille label=97featuring fantasies by Schubert, Schumann, Schoenberg, =20=

and Ornette Coleman=97has garnered wide critical praise. Koh is =20
grateful to her private sponsor for the generous loan of the 1727 Ex =20
Grumiaux Ex General DuPont Stradivari she uses in performance.

Pianist Reiko Uchida enjoys an active career as a soloist and chamber =20=

musician, and performs regularly throughout the United States, Asia, =20
and Europe. She has appeared as soloist with the Los Angeles =20
Philharmonic, Santa Fe Symphony, Greenwich Symphony, and the =20
Princeton Symphony. As a Chamber musician she has performed at the =20
Marlboro, Sante Fe, Tanglewood, and Spoleto Music Festivals, in =20
performances with the Borromeo and Tokyo Quartets, and in recital =20
with Jennifer Koh, Thomas Meglioranza, Sharon Robinson, and Jaime =20
Laredo. She was a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln =20
Center Two, and is currently an associate faculty member at Columbia =20
University. Ms. Uchida studied with Claude Frank, Leon Fleisher, and =20
