2006 (PG-13) 110 min. France/subtitles
Director: Christian Carion
Cast: Diane Kruger, Benno Furmann, Dany Boon, Guillaume Canet, Gary =
Lewis

This movie is inspired by a true story, which occurred in the trenches =
of the World War I battlefield on Christmas Eve in 1914. When war =
breaks out in the lull of summer 1914, it surprises and pulls millions =
of men in its wake. Christmas arrives, with its snow and multitude of =
family and army presents. But the surprise won't come from inside the =
generous parcels which lie in the French, Scottish, and German trenches. =
 That night, a momentous event will turn the destinies of four =
characters: an Anglican priest, a French lieutenant, an exceptional =
German tenor and the one he loves, a soprano and singing partner. =
During this Christmas Eve, the unthinkable happens: soldiers come out of =
their trenches, leaving their rifles behind to shake hands with the =
enemy. These men have much in common with one another. They come from =
the same kinds of homes, went to the same kinds of schools and worship =
the same kinds of Gods. They are required to fight, and most of them =
are required to die. In a remarkable moment of common interest, they =
share information about plans for artillery attacks, and all gather in =
one trench while the other is shelled, then switch trenches for the =
response. While there is some bloodshed at the beginning of the film, =
the movie is really about the respite from battlefield carnage, and it =
lacks the brutal details of more recent war films. As Roger Ebert wrote =
in his review, "the film's sentimentality is muted by the thought that =
this moment of peace did take place, among men who were punished for it, =
and who mostly died soon afterward. But on one Christmas, they were able =
to express what has been called perhaps too optimistically, the =
brotherhood of man."

" A poignant and rousing carol for peace." - Carrie Rickey, PHILADELPHIA =
ENQUIRER

"Profound, beautifully made and deeply touching." - Rex Reed, NEW YORK =

or, if you're looking for a great event to give as a gift or to enjoy =
yourself in the new year, don't forget we have
"MAN OF LA MANCHA" on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 7:30pm
By Dale Wasserman, Mitch Leigh and Joe Darion
Tickets:  $34.00/Orchestra; $27.00/Mezzanine=20
Based on I, Don Quixote, a television play by librettist Wasserman, "MAN =
OF LA MANCHA" begins with the imprisonment of novelist Miguel de =
Cervantes during the Spanish Inquisition. While awaiting trial, =
Cervantes and his faithful servant find themselves set upon by the other =
inmates, a horde of thieves and murderers, who organize trials of their =
own in which the new inmates must defend themselves before "The =
Governor," the self-appointed head of the prisoners. Cervantes =
convinces him that his defense should take the form of an entertainment, =
and presents the story of a country squire named Alonso Quijana who, =
overwhelmed by the evil that men do toward men, puts aside his sanity =
and sets out into the world as a knight errant, dubbing himself Don =
Quixote de La Mancha, champion of the oppressed and righter of wrongs. =
The Governor and other prisoners are impressed with Cervantes' defense, =
and the novelist's crimes are forgiven. But now the guards have =
returned, and Cervantes has managed to defend himself in front of one =
court only to be dragged in front of another. "MAN OF LA MANCHA" opened =
Off-Broadway on November 22, 1965 and was a resounding critical success. =
 In March of 1968, it transferred to Broadway, where it ran 2,328 =
performances, the third longest running musical of the 1960's. This =
triumphant production won 5 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best =
Score and Lyrics, as well as the New York Drama Critics Award for Best =
Musical. It reigns as the original "quest" musical, and is best known =
for the song "The Impossible Dream," this poignant and often funny story =
is moving for the entire family, "MAN OF LA MANCHA" is a treat for all =
the senses, and just might ignite your own quest for adventure! =

<P class=3DText>This movie is inspired by a true story, which occurred =
in the=20
trenches of the World War I battlefield on Christmas Eve in 1914.  =
When war=20
breaks out in the lull of summer 1914, it surprises and pulls millions =
of men in=20
its wake.  Christmas arrives, with its snow and multitude of family =
and=20
army presents.  But the surprise won=92t come from inside the =
generous=20
parcels which lie in the French, Scottish, and German trenches.  =
That=20
night, a momentous event will turn the destinies of four characters: an =
Anglican=20
priest, a French lieutenant, an exceptional German tenor and the one he =
loves, a=20
soprano and singing partner.  During this Christmas Eve, the =
unthinkable=20
happens: soldiers come out of their trenches, leaving their rifles =
behind to=20
shake hands with the enemy.  These men have much in common with one =

another.  They come from the same kinds of homes, went to the same =
kinds of=20
schools and worship the same kinds of Gods.  They are required to =
fight,=20
and most of them are required to die.  In a remarkable moment of =
common=20
interest, they share information about plans for artillery attacks, and =
all=20
gather in one trench while the other is shelled, then switch trenches =
for the=20
response.  While there is some bloodshed at the beginning of the =
film, the=20
movie is really about the respite from battlefield carnage, and it lacks =
the=20
brutal details of more recent war films.  As Roger Ebert wrote in =
his=20
review, "the film's sentimentality is muted by the thought that this =
moment of=20
peace did take place, among men who were punished for it, and who mostly =
died=20
soon afterward. But on one Christmas, they were able to express what has =
been=20
called perhaps too optimistically, the brotherhood of man."</P>

Quixote, a television play by librettist Wasserman, =93MAN OF LA =
MANCHA=94 begins=20
with the imprisonment of novelist Miguel de Cervantes during the Spanish =

Inquisition.  While awaiting trial, Cervantes and his faithful =
servant find=20
themselves set upon by the other inmates, a horde of thieves and =
murderers, who=20
organize trials of their own in which the new inmates must defend =
themselves=20
before "The Governor," the self-appointed head of the prisoners.  =
Cervantes=20
convinces him that his defense should take the form of an entertainment, =
and=20
presents the story of a country squire named Alonso Quijana who, =
overwhelmed by=20
the evil that men do toward men, puts aside his sanity and sets out into =
the=20
world as a knight errant, dubbing himself Don Quixote de La Mancha, =
champion of=20
the oppressed and righter of wrongs.  The Governor and other =
prisoners are=20
impressed with Cervantes=92 defense, and the novelist's crimes are =
forgiven. =20
But now the guards have returned, and Cervantes has managed to defend =
himself in=20
front of one court only to be dragged in front of another.  =93MAN =
OF LA=20
MANCHA=94 opened Off-Broadway on November 22, 1965 and was a resounding =
critical=20
success.  In March of 1968, it transferred to Broadway, where it =
ran 2,328=20
performances, the third longest running musical of the 1960's.  =
This=20
triumphant production won 5 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best =

Musical. =20
It reigns as the original =93quest=94 musical, and is best known for the =
