My name is Ryan Haddad and I do theater work in the Parma, Parma Heights, and Cleveland area, most recently performing at the Cassidy Theatre.

Some of you know me, most of you don't, but some of you may have heard about this already, so this may be a reminder.

I entered an essay contest sponsored by Crest Whitestrips to win a family reunion to New York for my grandparents. It was put into the top 25 and from there it was up to the votes of the country for us to win. Many friends have forwarded the information and voting has been taking place since December 4. As a last minute resort to rally some votes, I ask you all to cast a few between now and Saturday (23rd- when voting ends). It is a simple process and my family would really appreciate it.

Please go to www.whitestrips.com/reunion and click on "vote now". Login or register and then scroll down the list until you find the essay submitted by my mother Judy Haddad (my essay entered by her because I am only 14) and click vote. You can do this once a day until the 23rd and I know if you all take a little time to do this it will really help. A copy of my essay is below.

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays.

  With Gratitude,
  Ryan Haddad

  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following is an essay my 14-year-old son wrote immediately after seeing Marcia on the "View". I am entering his piece because it is an extremely heartfelt letter and I feel it deserves your attention, so please read:

My name is Ryan. I’m a 14-year-old eight grader from Ohio. I love New York City and have been there four times, most recently this past October. I know it may seem greedy that I am entering this competition, but I have a good reason. You see, the trip is not exactly for me. It is for my grandparents, Evelyn and Edward. My grandmother (Nana) grew up in Brooklyn, but moved to Cleveland when she married my grandfather (Giddie). They used to take trips to visit her brothers and sister every year until recently. Her older sister Edith died of breast cancer in 1996. However, around Christmas 2002 we found out Giddie had cancer, for the fourth time. He went through chemotherapy and is now back to normal, well almost. I don’t know that he’ll ever be 100% but I am so thankful that he is healthy again. I apologize for getting totally off topic, but the point is it has been a lot harder for Nana to see her family since he was diagnosed. She’s attended a few weddings, and her sister
normally comes to Cleveland once a year. When her siblings do visit she is thrilled. However, they are never all together and she never sees them enough. Nobody is getting any younger, and since my grandfather, John died in 1998, I have been very conscious of death and realize that family is the most important thing in life. I want her to be with her family before it is too late. When we went to see her family in New York/New Jersey in October, she declined the offer to come with us. She was worried that it would be too hard for Giddie to make trip, even though he could have. Actually, about two months ago she missed her great-nephew’s baptism and I am sure that broke her heart, although she will never admit it. And that is why I want to win this competition so badly, for her. It will be her excuse to see her family again, all of them together at once. She does not know I am writing this, but my parents do, and they feel the same way. It’s her chance, and his, to reunite
with their loved ones. I know for a fact how much joy it will bring to them. I love them both so much and this would be the greatest gift I could ever give them. I thank you for considering Nana and Giddie in this competition and wish you all the best in choosing a winner. It is a wonderful opportunity for a deserving family, and thank you for making it available. Happy holidays and God bless.
