* Some Membership Stories

Hello, Friends of NCMC!

It was nice to see so many of you in our audience at=20
our December concerts. We had such a tremendous=20
response to A Joyful Noise. It was a beautiful=20
show that was lots of fun for us, and our invited=20
gospel choir, to perform. We=92re glad so many of you=20
got to kick-off your=20
holidays with us!

In our audience that weekend (and on our e-mail=20
list), I suspect, were many closet stars - shower=20
singers, Christina Aguilera-wannabes, Karaoke fans,=20
guys who=92ve been on the fence for some time about=20
joining our singing group. And to those folks, I say=20
that=20
this is the perfect time to finally take the plunge and=20
join the North Coast Men=92s Chorus! Or, if you are a=20
member on leave, a great time to rejoin the=20
fun.

We begin rehearsals for our next concert =96 On the Radio (http://rs6.net/t=

On the=20

Some Membership Stories

After each of our concerts, there is always a flurry of=20
emails back and forth, to and from the guys in the=20
chorus. These emails are often funny, often=20
emotional, and always offering some additional insight=20
into what makes NCMC so special. Included are a=20
few of these email messages for all of you to=20
read and consider. NCMC is so much more than just a=20
bunch of guys singing together. We can and do=20
change people's lives.=20

Dear NCMC Chorus=20
Members,
=20
     Thank
=20
you=20
for impacting my life! Some of you=20
don't know me or anything about my story. Four=20
months ago I resigned a position as a Pastor in order=20
to live my life "out" as a gay man. I walked away from=20
everything - job security, health insurance, salary,=20
career, community, and friends. Joining the chorus=20
was one of the best decisions I made during this=20
transition time in my life.=20

This has been the beginning of a completely new=20
chapter in my life and you have all been an important=20
part of that. These few months have been difficult=20
financially and professionally and it has been a bumpy=20
road at times with the health of my parents, but I=20
have
held it together emotionally and socially because of=20
the people I met in the NCMC. I knew in=20
September that I needed an "instant community" and=20
that is exactly what you all became in my=20
life.=20

Sometimes our rehearsal was the highlight of my=20
week. The Retreat in October was a great=20
experience, too. The music and concerts really made=20
this all a very enjoyable
experience. Most of all I am thankful for the friends I=20
have made in the=20
Chorus.=20

I am still dealing with family issues as well as=20
residence and new career decisions, but for the most=20
part, my life is good. I have felt at home with the=20
chorus from the start, but these concerts have=20
reinforced that. None of my invited guests attended=20
any of the concerts, but I have not let that get me=20
down.=20

NCMC is my new community of support and friends.=20
Thanks to all of you for helping make this life=20
transition a bit smoother. -=20
Dave

     When
I=20
moved to Cleveland, I left a home where I had friends=20
and family and a network of support and community.=20
I was a little afraid that I would have trouble starting=20
over in a much bigger city. Just a few weeks after I=20
arrived, I joined the North Coast Men's Chorus hoping=20
to find not just an outlet for my musical interests but=20
maybe a connection to the community as well. I=20
knew the former would be easy. NCMC is a talented=20
group and Rich Cole is a wonderful director. It's a=20
pleasure to sing with these amazing men. But beyond=20
that, I was immediately met with such welcome and=20
warmth that I realized I had found a new family of=20
brothers. In just a few months, I have come to love=20
these guys so much. They lift my spirits, make me=20
laugh and cry and think and learn and grow and have=20
made such a contribution to my life, it's=20
immeasurable. I am so fortunate and so grateful to be=20
one of them. =96 Brandon=20

Monday morning I took my recording of Friday=92s=20
concert to school with me and played it on my stereo=20
while my 23 second graders were coming in. (I told=20
them I would bring a better recording of "the group I=20
sing in" after making them listen repeatedly to my=20
rehearsal CD during snack time!) Immediately they=20
started complimenting the sound and how "cool" it=20
was. At snack-time the CD kept playing. Slowly the=20
swaying started during O Holy Night! I sat at=20
my desk=20
in awe as 23 second graders started swaying along=20
with Brandon! Then they STOPPED and actually=20
listened to The Awakening, their eyes getting=20
bigger=20
with our building "Awake, Awake!" Finally they all got=20
up and started dancing to Make a Joyful=20
Noise!!! Still=20
at my desk, I was not sure what emotion I was=20
supposed to have?????? I was filled with so many=20
types of emotion on so many levels. Emotions for my=20
class, emotion for all of you guys, and emotions for=20
just being able to sing and share music. I wish I had=20
a video camera, because there is really no way to=20
explain the joy in my room yesterday morning!

=20
Today is the all school sing-a-long which I have led=20
for the last 10 years. My class asked if the guys in=20
my group were going to come and help me this year.=20
Holding back a tear, I laughed and said "Sorry, you=20
are just going to have to put up with me again."=20

=20
But know that I will most definitely be thinking about=20
the chorus and the wonderful music we shared this=20
weekend at 10:00 a.m. as I lead 905 K-3 students=20
through=20
an hour of Christmas sing-a-long! -=20
Dan

     There=20
were so many incredible moments,=20
so many excellent performances, and you all knew as=20
you performed them that you were making something=20
particularly wonderful. The best times for me in this=20
concert? The audiences' responses to our soloists;=20
Greg=92s pride in unveiling the Hearts on Fire poster;=20
Brandon's Sunday speech about coming as a stranger=20
into our group; Ava's and Mama Eva's hugs; the=20
camaraderie last night at Union Station; the relief in=20
knowing that both Lora and Rich's mother are all=20
right; the sight of Abdul running full-speed in cap and=20
gown into the Music Building yesterday -- a happy=20
graduate, but happier still to perform in the second=20
act; Dave=92s wonderful email reminding us how=20
important it is to keep making a space for new and=20
transitioning singers.
=20

Guys, you sang beautifully! But more importantly,=20
you are beautiful. Thank you for reminding me again=20
and again why I give up my Sunday nights, too many=20
weekends, and most of my sanity. I hope your=20
Christmas is as beautiful as the one you've provided=20
me. - Jim

>After each of our concerts, there is always a flurry of=20
emails back and forth, to and from the guys in the=20
chorus. These emails are often funny, often=20
emotional, and always offering some additional insight=20
into what makes NCMC so special. Included are a=20
few of these email messages for all of you to=20
read and consider. NCMC is so much more than just a=20
bunch of guys singing together. We can and do=20
change people's lives.

Dear NCMC Chorus=20
Members,
=20
     Thank
=20
you=20
for impacting my life!
I knew in=20
September that I needed an "instant community" and=20
that is exactly what you all became in my=20
life.
Sometimes our rehearsal was the highlight of my=20
week. The Retreat in October was a great=20
experience, too. The music and concerts really made=20
this all a very enjoyable
experience. Most of all I am thankful for the friends I=20
have made in the=20
Chorus.
I am still dealing with family issues as well as=20
residence and new career decisions, but for the most=20
part, my life is good. I have felt at home with the=20
chorus from the start, but these concerts have=20
reinforced that. None of my invited guests attended=20
any of the concerts, but I have not let that get me=20
down.
NCMC is my new community of support and friends.=20
Thanks to all of you for helping make this life=20
transition a bit smoother. -=20
Dave

When
I=20
moved to Cleveland, I left a home where I had friends=20
and family and a network of support and community.=20

Then they STOPPED and actually=20
listened to The Awakening, their eyes getting=20
bigger=20
with our building "Awake, Awake!" Finally they all got=20
up and started dancing to Make a Joyful=20
Noise!!! Still=20
at my desk, I was not sure what emotion I was=20
supposed to have?????? I was filled with so many=20
types of emotion on so many levels. Emotions for my=20
class, emotion for all of you guys, and emotions for=20
just being able to sing and share music. I wish I had=20
a video camera, because there is really no way to=20
explain the joy in my room yesterday morning!
=20
Today is the all school sing-a-long which I have led=20
for the last 10 years. My class asked if the guys in=20
my group were going to come and help me this year.=20
Holding back a tear, I laughed and said "Sorry, you=20
are just going to have to put up with me again."=20

=20
But know that I will most definitely be thinking about=20
the chorus and the wonderful music we shared this=20
weekend at 10:00 a.m. as I lead 905 K-3 students=20
through=20
an hour of Christmas sing-a-long! -=20
Dan

There=20
were so many incredible moments,=20
so many excellent performances, and you all knew as=20
you performed them that you were making something=20
particularly wonderful.

I hope your=20
Christmas is as beautiful as the one you've provided=20
me. - Jim
