Peter Shaffer's Tony Award Winning Drama

Directed by William Roudebush

February 2 - 25, 2007

Lakewood, OH - Beck Center has the extraordinary opportunity =
to present Peter Shaffer's Tony Award winning drama, Equus, February 2 - =
25, 2007 on the Mackey Main Stage.

Directed by William Roudebush, Equus, winner of the Tony and Drama =
Critics Circle awards for Best Play, and a sensation when it opened on =
Broadway in 1975, is an electrifying journey into the mind of a confused =
seventeen-year-old boy who has plunged a spike into the eyes of five =
horses. Inspired by a crime involving a teenage boy's senseless =
mutilation of horses, Peter Shaffer's Equus is a fictional account of =
what might have caused the incident, without knowing any of the details =
of the crime. The play revolves around a psychiatrist who tries to help =
the boy confront his personal demons while wrestling with his own sense =
of purpose.

Director Roudebush re-imagines his concept that won him Philadelphia's =
2002 Barrymore Award for Best Director and Best Production. "The world =
that surrounds us today makes Equus seems prophetic," says Roudebush. =
"Concerned about the growing disaffection of youth and the culture of =
violence in today's schools, I'm thrilled the Beck Center has agreed to =
stage this play and usher Peter Shaffer's masterpiece into the 21st =
century."

            With choreography by Mart=EDn C=E9spedes, Equus features a =
star-studded cast, including Matthew Wright* as Dr. Dysart, Dan Folino =
as Alan, Bernadette Clemens* as Jill, Lenne Snively as Mrs. Strang, =
Geoffrey Darling as Mr. Strang, and Alison Garrigan as Hester.

Longtime visitors to Beck's Mackey Main Stage will be in for a treat and =
a surprise. To accommodate the intimacy and immediacy required for this =
production, Scenic Designer Don McBride and Director Bill Roudebush have =
reinvented the theater in an astounding way. "Change is good," says =
Artistic Director Scott Spence. "Keeps us all on our toes."

The Beck Center's production of Equus is sponsored by Cox =
Communications, WCPN 90.3 FM ideastream, WCLV 104.9 FM, and Cleveland =
FreeTimes. Programming at the Beck Center is made possible through the =
generous support of The Cleveland Foundation, the George Gund =
Foundation, The John P. Murphy Foundation, the Kulas Foundation, and the =
Ohio Arts Council.

Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 =
p.m. A special Thursday night performance is scheduled for February 22 =
at 8:00 p.m. For tickets to Equus call the Beck Center box office at =
(216) 521-2540 or log onto www.beckcenter.org =
<http://www.beckcenter.org/> . Ticket prices are $28 for adults, $25 =
for seniors and $17 for students (22 and under with I.D.) and include a =
$2.00 administrative fee. Group discounts are available for parties of =
12 or more. Rush tickets for students (22 and under with I.D.) are =
offered for $10 each on Sundays and Thursdays only, 30 minutes prior to =
curtain, based on availability. Convenient on-site parking is available =
for $2. Beck Center for the Arts is located just 10 minutes west of =
downtown Cleveland at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood. =20
