Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan. While Kate is embracing her career, Greg is dissatisfied with his.
The potential solution to the problem jumps into his lap in the form of a loving pooch named Sylvia.
Greg forms an unusual bond to the mutt, and soon work problems are followed by even bigger marriage problems. While Kate sees Sylvia as a rival for Greg's affection, Sylvia thinks Kate doesn't understand the relationship between man and his dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.
Thought by many to be playwright A.R. Gurney's best work to date...certainly his most popular,
"Sylvia" was originally produced by the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York City on May 2, 1995
and starred Sarah Jessica Parker. It later moved to Broadway's John Houseman Theatre, and
went on to become the most produced play of the 1996-1997 season.
"Dramatic literature is stuffed with memorable love scenes, but none is as immediately delicious and dizzy as the one that begins the redeeming affair in A.R. Gurney's new comedy, SYLVIA…" —NY Times.

"I can only call it one of the most involving, beautiful, funny, touching and profound plays I have ever seen…" —NY Daily News.

"Gurney's mad comedy is the most endearing good time to trot down the pike in many a moon. Howlingly funny…" —BackStage.
