INSIDE THE IDEA CENTER is a series of one-hour specials that celebrates
the best the arts have to offer, capturing and communicating the
creative process and the insight and experience of master artists.
Produced in partnership with Playhouse Square, the goal of the series is
to perpetuate the brilliance of master artists by sharing their
knowledge and preserving it for generations to come.  In this premiere
episode, host Dee Perry welcomes Adam Guettel, Tony Award-winning
musical theater composer and lyricist.  Called "a composer for the new
century" by the Los Angeles Times, Guettel is one of American musical
theater's most vibrant new voices who has written some of the most
adventurous and admired theater music of the last decade.  His music is
known for its complexity and use of various strings; he is perhaps one
of the modern musical theater composers most heavily influenced by
Stephen Sondheim.  Guettel won two Tony Awards for his work on the
musical The Light in the Piazza, which opens at Playhouse Square Center
on January 16. Funding for the program was provided by the Dominion
Foundation through a generous gift to the Campaign for Idea Center.
