TrueNorth Cultural Arts will be hosting a special concert in honor of
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s 251st Birthday on Saturday, January 27th, 2007 at
the Westlake High School Performing Arts Center located at 27830 Hilliard
Blvd. (1/2 mile west of Dover Center) in Westlake.

TrueNorth’s Chorale and Symphony, under the direction of Rick Fortney, will
be performing Mozart’s Requiem K.625. 75+ musicians will be coming together
to bring to you one of the most glorious works ever written. The Mozart
Requiem was the first concert ever performed by TrueNorth in its inaugural
1999 season.

The Requiem is burdened by biography. Whether or not one has seen the film
“Amadeus,” it is hard to escape the poignancy of a Mass for the dead written
in the last months of a great composer’s tragically short life. The
biographical place of this piece, left unfinished at Mozart’s death, almost
inevitably affect the way we hear and think about the work. It probably
prompts reflection on his mortality. This view is reinforced by an anecdote
reported in the 19th century according to which Mozart essentially called
the work his own Requiem; there are reasons to doubt the authority of this
story, but its impact has been large.

Two TrueNorth Quartets will be singing the Requiem Quartet Sections
featuring Debbie Chelco, Kristen Jones, Dawn Liston, Sharon Pervo, Kit
Pontius, David Graves and Rob Grandy.

In addition to the Requiem, the TrueNorth Symphony, under the direction of
James Traxler, will be performing two Mozart Sonatas and soprano Leah
Crocetto is returning with an encore performance from being featured at
TrueNorth’s Christmas concert. She will be singing a number of Mozart arias
in honor of his birthday. Ms. Crocetto, amazing vocal stylist in any genre,
recently performed her debut solo recital at Weil Recital Hall at NYC’s
Carnegie Hall.
