Jim Miller is a singer, song writer, guitarist and former front man of the band Oroboros, he has opened for Richard Thompson (of Fairport Convention), The Grateful Dead's lyricist Robert Hunter, Phish , Merle Saunders, Steve Miller Band, Gov't Mule, Leftover Salmon, Dark Star Orchestra, Dickey Betts, and Bruce Hornsby.
During the Summer of 2004, the band played at the 10,000 Lakes Festival in Minnesota which featured bands such as The String Cheese Incident and Galactic. Just recently the band opened for Little Feat at the Cleveland House of Blues!
With Oroboros, Jim has opened for Go Ahead (with members of the Grateful Dead and Santana), The Radiators, Black Uhuru, Santana and Rusted Root. He has jammed with the likes of Hot Tuna, John Popper and Blues Traveler, Sheryl Crow, Allman Brothers Band, and The Kinks.
Other headlining acts that Jim has opened for include, the 1994 H.O.R.D.E. Festival, the 1996 Further Festival (with members of the Grateful Dead, Los Lobos and Hot Tuna), the opening of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame's psychedelic exhibit (with Big Brother and the Holding Company, Donovan, Country Joe, and Chet Helms).

Carlos Jones has been entertaining audiences for over 25 years throughout the eastern half of the United States, first as a member of the roots reggae group "I-Tal", and then with the legendary "First Light." As the front man for First Light, the reggae influence was evident in much of the group's music, but over time, they developed a sound unique to themselves. As one of the primary songwriters, Carlos has written and performed over 100 songs with the group, and released 1 vinyl album, 2 cassettes, and 2 CD's that sold in excess of 50,000 units on the group's own label - "Thin Ice Records."
Feeling the need to get back to his musical roots, Carlos formed the Peace-Love-Unity-Syndicate (aka the PLUS Band) as a side project, while First Light was still playing together. After First Light disbanded, the PLUS Band has become the primary vehicle for Carlos' immense songwriting talents. Focusing on the need to create positive vibrations through his music, Carlos' message of Peace, Love, and Unity is one that stirs feelings in audiences of all ages and races. Blending many of the traditional percussion instruments with electronic keyboarding gives the music a unique hybrid style of roots reggae. Carlos, and his Peace, Love, Unity Syndicate (the PLUS Band) have matured as songwriters, musicians and performers, giving energetic and uplifting performances for an ever-expanding following, and consistently winning awards alternately in the best ethnic/world, best reggae/ska, and best live act categories in the Cleveland Scene and Free Times Music Awards every year,
already adding the 2006 Free Times Music Award to their collection.

          LIVINGSTON TAYLOR
  Saturday, February 3
8:00 PM
Livingston Taylor was born in Boston in November of 1950, the fourth of five children. He was raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where his father, Isaac M. Taylor, was Dean of the medical school at the University of North Carolina.
Moving back to Boston to finish high school, Livingston stayed on to pursue his career in the music business. He had his first album in 1970, with subsequent recordings in 1972, 1974, 1978, 1983, 1988, two in 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, and 1999. He has written two children's books, Pajamas and Can I Be Good. He has toured this country extensively, working an average of one hundred to one hundred-twenty-five dates per year.
Livingston began teaching at Berklee School of Music in the summer of 1989, and was made full professor in 1997. He teaches a course of his own creation entitled "Stage Performance Techniques." This was the starting point for his latest book, Stage Performance, released by Pocket Books in 2000. He is an Artist-in-Residence at Harvard University for the academic year 2000-2001.
The Boston Music Award for "best folk and acoustic artist" has been awarded to Livingston, and he has been recognized for his contribution to American culture at the Celebration of North Carolina Artists. He is a friend and past presenter of the Reebok Human Rights Awards.
Probably the single biggest interest outside of music is Livingston's love of flying. An IFR certified and capable pilot, he often flies to work in his Cessna 205, affectionately known as Bertha. Aside from that, you might find him ringing a bell at the holidays for the Salvation Army, or working to support the Massachusetts Coalition of Battered Women's shelters, or homeless shelters around the country. He lends his name to countless charitable organizations to aid fund raising.

        SWORD OF
THE SPIRIT
A one-act play based on the life of John Brown & Mary Brown
by Greg Artzner, Terry Leonino, and Richard Henzel

Song Cycle concert by Magpie on
Friday, February 23 -- 8:00 PM

Play on Saturday, February 24 -- 8:00 PM
Greg Artzner and Terry Leonino, better known as the award-winning folk duo Magpie, have created a fascinating work with “Sword of the Spirit,” which looks at the history and legacy of abolitionist John Brown and the famous Harper’s Ferry raid of October, 1859. Brown hoped his violent civil action would galvanize the nation against slavery, which he called "sum of all villainies." He failed and two months later, Brown and those in his party not killed in the raid were hanged. Sixteen months later, the Civil War began.
Sword of the Spirit” is a musical extrapolation of a similarly titled one-act play created by Artzner, Leonino and Richard Henzel, set in Brown’s jail cell and constructed as letter-based conversations between Brown and his wife, Mary. Like the letters, the songs recount tumultuous history in decidedly human terms, focusing not just on Brown but his family and several others who made the ultimate sacrifice to end slavery.
Si Kahn’s kaleidoscopic "Old John Brown" provides a frame for the story, while Peggy Eyres' "Mary Brown, Abolitionist" locates the familial cost of the raid. And Woody Guthrie’s “The Ballad of Harriet Tubman and Kim & Reggie Harris’ eloquent "Heaven is Less Than Fair" evoke the horror and anticipation of travel on the Underground Railroad.
Artzner and Leonino wrote the seven remaining songs after a tremendous amount of research at the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, the Library of Congress and elsewhere, relying on original documents and particularly, letters by the participants. As compelling as the Browns’ story may be, it is the voices of three former slaves [sic*] who fought and died with Brown that imbue this tale with deeper moral authority. They were Shields Green (“I Stood on the River of Jordan/Heaven Bound”), Dangerfield Newby (“Dangerfield”) and “John Copeland,” and their roles are wisely elevated in the musical telling of the story.
Brown's personal epiphanies are recounted in "Goodbye to Old Ohio" and "Captain,” in which he states his conviction the “only blood can purge these crimes [of slavery] away.” And just as Si Kahn’s opening song offers a snapshot of coming events, the closing “Testimony of Frederick Douglass recasts them with both personal and historic perspective. Distant history is made human by song, in voices that feel authentic and committed ~ Richard Harrington

        RICHARD THOMPSON
  Sunday, February 25
7:00 PM
Richard Thompson might be the quintessential cult artist. Mention his name, and people either scratch their heads, wondering why the name is familiar, or turn out to be fans who try to convert you.
Fans will tell you about his phenomenal guitar playing. They'll rave about his expertly crafted songs, delivered with the throaty voice of a modern troubadour.
Born in West London in 1949. His family was very musically diverse, and he grew up listening to everything from jazz to early rock and roll. Artists like Buddy Holly and Les Paul intermingled in his record collection with Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.
As a teenager, Richard became the guitarist in several bands throughout the 1960s, including now legendary folk rockers Fairport Convention (his "breakthrough band"). He remained with the band for three more years, eventually touring America with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Traffic in 1970.
In 1971, Richard released his first solo album, which was followed by his marriage to folksinger Linda Peters, with whom he made several albums as a duo in 1974-78. Richard and Linda's children Teddy Thompson and Kamila Thompson are both involved in music.
Regular Fairport reunions have since peppered a career dominated by blistering solo albums acoustic, electric and live. After nearly forty years and fifty albums Richard is still writing and performing his poetically crafted songs in his distinctive style. He's collaborated with folks like Peter Filleul and Tim Finn of Crowded House, and has been covered by artists from REM to Bonnie Raitt, to Del McCoury.
Rolling Stone magazine listed Thompson as #19 on its list of The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
In 2006 Richard Thompson was presented with a Lifetime Achievement prize at the BBC Folk Awards and the Fairport Convention album which most bears his mark, Liege & Leif, was voted the Most Influential Folk Album of All Time.

They'll rave about his expertly crafted songs, delivered with the throaty voice of
a modern troubadour.</DIV> <DIV align=left>Born in West London in 1949. His family was very musically diverse, and he grew up listening to everything from jazz to early rock and roll. Artists like Buddy Holly and Les Paul intermingled in his record collection with Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.</DIV> <DIV align=left>As a teenager, Richard became the guitarist in several bands throughout the 1960s, including now legendary folk rockers Fairport Convention (his "breakthrough band"). He remained with the band for three more years, eventually touring America with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Traffic in 1970. </DIV> <DIV align=left>In 1971, Richard released his first solo album, which was followed by his marriage to folksinger Linda Peters, with whom he made several albums as a duo in 1974-78. Richard and Linda's children Teddy Thompson and Kamila Thompson are both involved in music. </DIV> <DIV align=left>Regular Fairport reunions have since peppered a career
dominated by blistering solo albums acoustic, electric and live. </DIV> <DIV align=left><STRONG>Rolling Stone magazine listed Thompson as #19 on its list of The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.</STRONG></DIV> <DIV align=left>In <STRONG>2006 Richard Thompson was presented with a Lifetime Achievement prize at the BBC Folk Awards</STRONG> and the Fairport Convention album which most bears his mark, Liege & Leif, was voted the Most Influential Folk Album of All Time. </DIV> <DIV align=right><A href="http://www.richardthompson-musicr.com/"></A> </DIV> <DIV align=left><B><FONT color=#990000>Advance discount tickets: $20.00<BR></FONT></B><B>Day of Show: $25.00</B></DIV> <DIV
