Lakewood, Ohio - The Beck Center for the Arts invites you to enjoy =
Chamber Music, a free music recital with Beck Center faculty and friends =
on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at 3:30 p.m. in the Music-Armory Building.  =
Chamber Music will feature the talents of members of the accomplished =
Beck Center music faculty.  This recital is free and open to the public. =
 The Beck Center for the Arts is located just ten minutes west of =
downtown Cleveland at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood.

            Chamber Music performers include Beck Center faculty members =
- Kathleen Bosl (soprano), Jocelyn Chang (harp), Christopher Ellicott =
(guitar), Amy Christina Hall (soprano), Michael Leese (flute), Coren =
Mino (piano), Ronald Palka (piano), Greg Upton (piano/voice); and guest =
performer, Robin MacFarland (piano). =20

            The Beck Center for the Arts is a non-profit, comprehensive =
performing arts organization dedicated to enriching the quality of life =
through the arts for individuals, regardless of age or ability.  It is =
one of the area's largest performing arts organizations and the only =
institution of its kind on Cleveland's Westside.  Each year, the Beck =
Center provides professional theater performances and high-quality arts =
education programs for tens of thousands of patrons in Northeast Ohio.  =
Programming includes a professional theater; an arts education program =
offering instruction in dance, music, theater, and visual arts; a =
creative arts therapies program for individuals with special needs; and =
art galleries.

The Beck Music Department offers private lessons in voice, piano and all =
band and orchestral instruments.  The Music Conservatory offers an =
opportunity for exceptional students to increase their level of =
education and prepare them for acceptance to the finest colleges and =
universities in the country.  It is a unique and intensive course of =
study that offers college preparatory instruction, as well as =
performance opportunities.  In addition, the Music Department offers =
classes in voice, music theory, early childhood music, Suzuki violin, =
and Dalcroze Eurhythmics.  The Youth Choirs program includes five =
separate choirs involving over 150 students from kindergarten through =
ninth grade. =20

About the Performers

KATHLEEN BOSL, soprano, B.M. Ed., Kulas/Margaret-Rusk-Griffiths-Award =
Scholarship.  BW voice performance (major), piano (minor).  =
Studied/performed Milan, Italy.  Cleveland Opera Chorus/WCLV/ =
Freelances.  Cantor, soloist, Music Director at Stipule United Church of =
Christ in Parma,  Messianic Jewish Synagogues; Member of NATS & Three =
Arts Club of Lakewood.

JOCELYN CHANG, harpist, always a champion of the harp and new music, =
founded the harp department at the Chinese Cultural University in =
Taipei, Taiwan. She has served as the principal harpist of the =
award-winning Cleveland Chamber Symphony for the last 22 years.  Her =
talent for improvisation has been showcased in many  artistic =
collaborations incorporating music, dance, theater, poetry, painting, =
sculpture, and performance art.  The leader in the exploration of the =
revolutionary Dilling harp,  she has commissioned and performed over 70 =
compositions on this remarkable instrument and has toured with it across =
the U.S., Canada, Holland, Germany, Bulgaria, and Romania.  She appears =
on over two dozen recordings, including numerous world premieres.  She =
is the director of the Jocelyn Chang Harp Ensemble and currently teaches =
at Cleveland State University, Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory, Cleveland =
Music School Settlement, and the Beck Center for the Arts.  She holds a =
B.M. and M.M. in harp performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music =
and Cleveland State University.

CHRISTOPHER ELLICOTT, guitar, performs frequently throughout the =
Cleveland area as soloist and member of the clarinet/guitar duo Sunday =
in the Park along with his wife Karen.  He is a graduate of =
Baldwin-Wallace College where he continues to study under Dr. Loris =
Chobanian.  Christopher is a board member of the Greater Cleveland =
Classical Guitar Society, and has attended several area guitar workshops =
and festivals including the summer Classical Guitar Workshop at the =
University of Cincinnati College - Conservatory of Music where he has =
played in master classes and performed in concerts.

AMY CHRISTINA HALL, soprano, moved to Ohio to attend the Cleveland =
Institute of Music where she completed a Professional Studies degree in =
Voice in 2004. After graduation she began teaching voice and singing =
classes at the  Beck Center for the Arts. Ms. Hall has won many awards =
and was a finalist  at the Irma M. Cooper Opera Columbus International =
Vocal Competition. Since 2003 she has been engaged with Cleveland Opera =
on Tour performing as Adele in Die Fledermaus, Adina in Elixir of love, =
and as Papagena in Cleveland Opera's main stage production of Die =
Zauberfl=F6te. She has also sung Rosina in The Barber of Seville for =
Cleveland Opera On Tour's mini-residency.

MICHAEL LEESE,  flute, holds the B.M. from Jacksonville University and =
the M.M. from Boston University.  He is a composer, flutist, teacher and =
lecturer.  A MacDowell Colony fellow, his music has been featured in =
concerts and festivals across North America, South America, Europe and =
Asia.  His workshops on improvisation have been offered as far afield as =
Germany and Bulgaria, and as close to home as the Cleveland Institute of =
Music.  His chamber work, Music for Harp, Percussion, and Strings, was =
premiered by the Cleveland Chamber Symphony in 2002, and will appear on =
a Cleveland Composers Guild CD released by Capstone Records.  His solo =
harp piece, Dilling Fantasy, was selected as the required American work =
for the 2001 USA International Harp Competition at Indiana University in =
Bloomington.  His harp/flute duo with Jocelyn Chang gives over 100 =
performances a year; the two appeared together on 3 different television =
shows and 2 radio programs in the last year alone.  He is currently on =
the staff of Cleveland State University, Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory, =
Cleveland Music School Settlement and The Beck Center for the Arts.  In =
addition, Michael has produced the CD recording sessions of the =
Cleveland Chamber Symphony since 1997.

ROBIN MACFARLAND (guest performer), pianist, is in his third year as a =
candidate for the Bachelors of Music at Manhattan School of Music where =
he currently studies with Professor Phillip Kawin.  He began studying =
the piano at age seven with Roberto McCausland-Dieppa in Cleveland.  At =
the age of eleven, Robin performed the first movement of Mozart's Piano =
Concerto No. 21 in C, K.467 with the Lakeland Civic Orchestra.  He has =
attended PianoSummer Festival at New Paltz, New York for the last three =
years.  He has performed in recitals at New Paltz and Steinway Hall in =
New York City.  Mr. MacFarland also studies organ in New York City with =
Professor Walter Hilse. We are glad to welcome his baroque expertise  to =
the Beck.

COREN MINO, pianist, studied with her father, Morton Estrin, and later =
with Eunice Podis at the Cleveland Institute of Music. After graduating =
from CIM, she made her home in the Cleveland area where she lives and =
teaches today. Coren has performed in collaboration with her father in =
recitals in Cleveland and New York. She is a frequent performer of music =
written by contemporary Cleveland and Akron composers in concerts at the =
Cleveland Institute of Music, the Cleveland Music School Settlement, =
Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory, Cuyahoga Community College, and Lorain =
Community College where she has also taught. Coren may be heard on two =
compact discs:  Frederick Koch Contrasts (Dimension Records) and =
Riverside Academy of Music Presents Frederick Koch for Truemedia =
Records, Ltd. Of her performance, the  Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote, "A =
bit of spikiness can be found in Five Piano Preludes, which Coren Estrin =
gives a vibrant workout."

RONALD PALKA, pianist, is a member of the piano and conservatory =
faculties at the Beck Center. An active and versatile musician, he has =
performed with Horizon Concerts in New York City and with Access to the =
Arts in Cleveland. He has appeared as orchestral soloist with the Summer =
Symphony Orchestra of Queens and with the Suburban Symphony Orchestra of =
Beachwood. Upon completing his Master's Degree in Piano Performance from =
the Manhattan School of Music, Mr. Palka spent a year in Brazil where he =
served as instructor and pianist with the Music Foundation of Capao da =
Canoa in Rio Grande do Sul. His students have been awarded competition =
prizes with the Canton Symphony Orchestra and in OMTA's Composition =
Competition. They have also given premier performances (broadcast on =
Cleveland's WCLV) of works written for them by members of the Cleveland =
Composer's Guild. In addition to music, Mr. Palka holds a Master's =
Degree in Library Science from Kent State University.=20

GREG UPTON, (piano/voice)  Adjunct Professor at Baldwin-Wallace =
Conservatory of Music and member of the Beck Center (Riverside Academy)  =
Piano and Voice Faculty for over 15 years. Head of the Beck Center  =
Conservatory of Music programs,  now in its 5h year. Graduate Studies at =
the University of Illinois, Indiana University, University of Wisconsin =
and Westminster Choir College.  M.M. College Conservatory of Music, =
University of Cincinnati.
