Oklahoma!
Consider this: In the decade before Oklahoma! opened at the St. James Theatre in 1943, not one single play ran more than 500 performances. This great American classic ran for 2,212 performances. Its other firsts include the first cast recording of a Broadway musical and, astonishingly, the first collaboration between the now legendary Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.
There are countless reasons this play is such a seminal work, but among the most important is that it is a truly integrated musical. The songs and dances grow out of the characters and their emotions, rather than just fulfilling the need for singing and dancing in a musical.
Performance Dates: November 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 and 12
Thursday, Friday and Saturday Performances begin at 8pm, house opens at 7:30pm. Sunday Performances begin at 2:30pm, house opens at 2pm.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for non-Kent State students, children under 17 and Senior Citizens. All Kent State students are admitted free of charge with student ID.
