Beck Center Announces

Two New Art Gallery Exhibits

February 2 - March 18, 2007

            Lakewood, OH - The Beck Center for the Arts is proud to
announce two new art exhibits opening this month.  The annual Faculty
Art Show will be on display in the Jean Bulicek Art Galleria in the Main
Building and an exhibit of watercolors by the late Kenneth C. Beck will
be featured in the Music-Armory Building.  Both shows will be on exhibit
February 2 through March 18 and are free and open to the public. For
gallery hours, call the Beck Center at 216-521-2540.

            The Faculty Art Show will include a variety of media such as
ceramics, drawing, photography, watercolors, and oil painting and
features the work of the following accomplished artists - Thomas Berger,
A. Nancy Cintron, Susan Gallagher, Mel Grunau, Sue Miranda, Patricia
Hanahan Sigmier, Marilyn Szalay, and Justin Wisniewski.  The Beck
Center's Director of Education, Ed Gallagher notes,  "The annual Beck
Center Faculty Art Show is an opportunity for our faculty members, who
are all talented teachers and visual artists, to share their artistic
talents with the community." =20

            The watercolors exhibit will feature the artwork of the late
Kenneth C. Beck who studied at the Cleveland School of Art and was a
self-made millionaire who became a  prolific artist in his early
retirement.  Beck contributed significantly to the construction of the
current Beck Center for the Arts facility.  His art has been on display
at many institutions including the Lakeside Yacht Club, The Cleveland
Clinic and the Ft. Lauderdale Library.

            The public is also invited to attend a complimentary
reception for both art shows on Thursday, February 8 from 6:00 to 9:00
p.m. in the Daniels Lounge of the Main Building.

            The Beck Center for the Arts is the largest comprehensive
arts organization on Cleveland's Westside offering professional theater
productions on two stages; arts education programming in creative arts
therapies, dance, music, theater, and visual arts for all ages and
abilities; as well as gallery displays including additional exhibitions

About the Artists

Kenneth C.  Beck studied at the Cleveland School of Art in 1915 and
watercolor painting in Florida with Eliot O'Hara. His art has been on
display at many institutions including the Lakeside Yacht Club, The
Cleveland Clinic and the Ft. Lauderdale Library.  Beck was the owner of
a successful sign making and display business in Cleveland until the
1940's.  A self-made millionaire, he retired at an early age and became
a prolific artist.  In the 1970's, he was a major benefactor for the
Beck Center for the Arts, contributing the funds to build a new
facility.=20

Thomas Berger holds a B.F.A. in Art Education from Kent State University
with a studio concentration in ceramics and printmaking.  He is the
former Gallery Manager for the Cleveland Artists Foundation.  Tom
currently teaches art at John Marshall High School.

A. Nancy Cintron holds a B.A. from John Carroll University and
post-graduate studies in art at the Cleveland Institute of Art. She has
also studied art education and fine art at the graduate level at Kent
State University. Nancy was the Assistant Director of Julia De Burgos
Cultural Art Center and a Program Coordinator at the Hispanic Senior
Center, creating art programs and teaching a variety of art classes.

Susan Gallagher  Beck Center Associate Director, Visual Arts Education.
Susan holds a B.F.A. from the Cleveland Institute of Art with 29 years
experience as a clay artist, teacher and technician. She is an educator
with the Ohio Arts Council as part of their Artist in Residence program,
teaching in may schools throughout the state. She has had many
exhibitions, awards, scholarships, and has work in both private and
public collections. She is also owner of SMG Icon Ceramics.

Mel Grunau holds a B.A. from Baldwin Wallace College and a M.A. in
Architecture from Kent State University. He has 20 years experience in
adult art education and is an adjunct painting instructor with the
Cleveland Institute of Art. His paintings have been on display in
numerous exhibits, private and corporate collections, nationally and
internationally.=20

Susan Miranda holds a B.A. from Ohio University specializing in ceramics
with post-graduate study in the medium. She has taught ceramics locally
for the past 10 years and has exhibited her work locally.

Patricia Hanahan Sigmier holds a B.F.A. in Art from St. Mary's College
of Notre Dame in Indiana. She teaches classes and workshops for various
watercolor organizations locally and is a member of the Ohio Watercolor
Society. Patricia had exhibited in juried and non-juried shows
throughout Northeast Ohio.

Marilyn Szalay has taught for more than 25 years including 13 years at
the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA). Her works have been exhibited in
public and private collections throughout Ohio. Marilyn is an
accomplished artist in several media including photography, painting,
drawing, and computer graphics. She published the book "American Artist"
- Realism Today.

Justin Wisniewski holds an Associate degree in Graphic Design and
Illustration from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and a B.F.A. from the
Cleveland Institute of Art.  As a scholarship student at CIA, he also
studied in England.  He has taught children at several organizations in
the Greater Cleveland area and is currently Art Director at Ahola
Coporation.

artist in
several media including photography, painting, drawing, and computer =
graphics.
