Karamu House presents The Trial Of One-Short Sighted Black  Woman vs. Mammy
Louise And Safreeta Mae  during Women's Month Celebration   (Comedy Satire)
by Karani Marcia Leslie.  The Trial..,  Directed by Tony  Sias, will be
presented in Karamu's Jelliffe  Theatre  March 2 - March 25, 2007 with
Preview "Director" Nights on Wednesday, February 28th & Thursday, March1st


 

This play with the long title was voted one of the top ten off Broadway
plays, its bristling political satire puts racial stereotypes on
trial-literally!  A young professional African American files a law suit
against two negative images of Black women: Mammy and the sexually
licentious, Safreeta Mae. The courtroom satire uses humor and history to get
to the truth of the images African Americans face daily.    

 

And, though The Trial Of One-Short Sighted Black  Woman vs. Mammy Louise And
Safreeta Mae is focused on the African-American community, there are lessons
for anyone who has forgotten his or her roots in an effort to conform into
popular culture.  This issue driven play is a must see during Women's Month
Celebration
