Kids Having Fun in a Barn?
=20
Chagrin Falls, OHIO - This month, Chagrin Falls will become home-base to
a regional program that lets children learn by letting them create real
projects like simple robots, mini movies, computer games and animated
shorts. Children's Technology Workshop of Ohio has renovated a historic
barn in downtown Chagrin Falls and will celebrate National Engineers'
Week with a series of February sneak previews. =20
=20
The Children's Technology Workshop is located in a heavily-renovated,
century-old barn in downtown Chagrin Falls. The renovation project
required contractors to build a building within a building, in order to
meet structural and safety codes. Now, children grades 2 to 8 will be
inventing, creating and learning in a unique, safe colorful environment.
=20
Children's Technology Workshop is being described as "an Amusement Park
for the Mind." For the sneak previews, instructors will offer two-hour
classes and four-week workshops in computer game creation, movie making
and stop-action animation (the technology behind movies such as "Wallace
and Gromit" or "The Year Without a Santa Claus").=20
=20
The Children's Technology Workshop has provided after school programs
and special events to the Maple Heights Public Library, Hathaway Brown
School, the Cleveland Ingenuity Festival and other organizations
throughout northeast Ohio. They are actively working with several area
schools and colleges to offer on-site after school programs, in addition
to those being offered in their new building.=20
=20
Programs are offered in a variety of formats including summer camps,
parties (at the child's home or in the Chagrin Falls building), school
classes and special events. In each setting, children are given a
choice of projects to pursue. The lesson plans, which are created in
Toronto, Ontario, can include Egyptology, fashion design, space
exploration, architecture, search and rescue, sports and auto racing, in
addition to the video and computer workshops already mentioned.=20
=20
Two-hour workshops start at $25 and include access to computers, video
equipment, Lego robotics kits and other resources. Sessions will be held
each Wednesday after school and on Saturdays and Sundays.
=20
The Children's Technology Workshop is at 38 River Street in Chagrin
Falls, near Blakes Seafood and Game Keepers. It is immediately next to
the Chagrin Valley Little Theater. To learn more, call Karen Frye at
440.484.2222 or visit www.ctworkshop.com to register. Pre-registration
for all programs is required.
=20
The Children's Technology Workshop of Ohio is owned by Beta Strategy
Group LTD, a Chagrin Falls-based company that uses structured
innovation, research and experience to find and to maximize
opportunities within corporations and municipalities.
