Lakewood, Ohio -Beck Center for the Arts Teen Theater presents William
Shakespeare's classic tale, A Midsummer Night's Dream, where anything
can happen in the woods. This production runs from February 23 through
March 4 in the Studio Theater.

Directed by Dawn Youngs, Beck's Director of Theater
Education, A Midsummer Night's Dream is a story about a father whose
cruelty sends four teens fleeing into the unknown dangers of a
midsummer's night, where the course of true love never runs smooth.
Youngs' direction provides a gateway to a better understanding of
Shakespeare's works, stripping away the nonessential, and taking the
play back to its classical and mythological roots.

"This production introduces Shakespeare the way he was meant to be
experienced, living and breathing in the magical world of theater" says
Youngs. "Shakespeare's words are not just dead poetry on a page, but
the thoughts and words of living people full of unease, fears and
desires."

Youngs is herself an alumna of the Beck Center's theater
program. She received her B.A. in Theatre from the American University
in Washington D.C. and her M.F.A. in Acting from the University of
Missouri in Kansas City. She has worked in film and theatre throughout
the country including The Looking Glass Theatre Company, Ensemble
Theatre of Cincinnati, Utah Shakespeare, and Great Lakes Theatre
Festival. She has also studied with Dell'arte School of Physical
Theatre.

Cast members for A Midsummer Night's Dream are students from the Beck
Center's Theater Education program. They have participated in the
Fundamentals of Theater class and other "core" theater classes for
children available at the Beck Center for the Arts. In both
fundamentals and core classes, students explore basic acting skills
through improvisation and theater games, as well as develop singing and
acting techniques, and study method acting. In addition, they have had
introduction to theater appreciation and basic theater terminology.

The Beck Center's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream is sponsored
by Cox Communications, Westfield Great Northern, Music Is Elementary,
and Lakewoodbuzz.com. Programming at the Beck Center is made possible
through the generous support of The Cleveland Foundation, the George
Gund Foundation, the John P. Murphy Foundation, the Kulas Foundation,
the Eva L. & Joseph M. Bruening Foundation, the Abington Foundation, and
the Thomas H. White Foundation, and the Ohio Arts Council.

A Midsummer Night's Dream runs February 23 through March 4 in the Studio
Theater. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays
at 3:00 p.m. Special matinees have been scheduled for 9:35 a.m. and
12:00 noon on Tuesday and Thursday, February 27 and March 1. Tickets
are $12 for adults and $10 for children (12 and under). Group discounts
are available for 12 or more. To reserve tickets, call the Beck Center
Box Office at (216) 521-2540. Convenient on-site parking is available.
The Beck Center for the Arts is located just ten minutes west of
downtown Cleveland at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood.
