  MGP Press Release

Support the Performing Arts - Twice!

When you buy a ticket to a Mighty Goliath Production (MGP) or place an ad in their program, your dollars support the Performing Arts two-fold. MGP is Avon Lake's community musical theater group and they are presently rehearsing for their annual production. This year, the show is "Anything Goes" and will be presented on April 19, 20, 21, & 22. All of it's members are volunteers - from the producer to the pit players. They attract performers and audience members from as far away as Norwalk, Canton, Medina, & Cleveland. Once all of their debts are settled, they donate all of their profits to the Performing Arts Groups at Avon Lake High School. How much they donate depends upon how thrifty they can be in mounting such a show as well as how many tickets they sell and how many ads they obtain.

Since it's inception in 1959, MGP has donated over $137,000 to the Avon Lake Public Schools. It began as a PTA fundraiser where the profits were then divided amongst all of the schools. In 1999, MGP changed from donating to the PTA's to donating to the Performing Arts Groups at the High School as well as to the Endowment Fund.

Producer Kathy Snezek has been known to be the 'penny pincher' of the company. She has found ways to get things donated to help save those pennies, from batteries to lumber to scaffolding. In turn, any lumber, costumes, light fixtures, that MGP purchases are then reused by the high school drama department.

Another cost saving factor this year is performing for one weekend only. This saves costs in rentals of the Performing Arts Center, the script and score, the mics worn by the actors, any rented backdrops, etc. However, by having only one weekend of performances as has been the tradition, many audience members might think they can wait until the second weekend to see the show and it will be over!

By placing an ad in MGP's program or buying a ticket, you have not only supported MGP, but, the band, choir and drama departments at Avon Lake High School as well. During the month of March, some MGPers will be visiting area businesses in the hopes that they will support the company and the schools by placing an ad in their program. If you would like to place an ad or have your name listed as a patron of MGP, go to www.mightygoliath.com and click on the tab labled 'About MGP'. You can also purchase your tickets on line or at Hartsel Automotive on the east side of Avon Lake or TrueNorth on the west side of Avon Lake.
