February 26, 2007 – Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) welcomes back perennial audience favorite Inlet Dance Theatre to its DanceWorks ’07 series. Inlet Dance Theatre’s return is marked by a diverse repertoire highlighted by a world premiere from choreographer Bill Wade, Artistic Director and Founder of Inlet Dance Theatre in addition to a showcase of the Company’s works that that speak about life and the human condition – a theme that has become the signature of the Company.

The world premiere being debuted at DanceWorks is entitled “In, Not Of”. The piece is a commentary about being within a culture, yet not a part of it. The result of Wade’s recent international travels, In, Not Of asks how one goes about maintaining a true sense of cultural identity amidst globalization and commercialization. In, Not Of features an original score by acclaimed local composer/musician Ryan Lott.

Other works being performed at DanceWorks ’07 include: “SNOW” – a very recent piece that utilizes the Inlet staple of nontraditional partnering to metaphorically showcase individual falling snowflakes joining together into a beautiful culminating winterscape; “A Close Shave” is a physical, new male duet that acts as a whimsical metaphor about cleaning up one’s image and wrestling (literally) with the negative aspects of oneself; “imPAIRed” – a piece originating from an Inlet residency working with the visually impaired at the Cleveland Sight Center where dancers are rendered sightless via blindfolds; and a revised and expanded interpretation of Wade’s “Winged Opposition” – a work that deals with opposing spiritual forces, conflict, and resistance expressed through physical movement.

A special Saturday Educational Matinee performance, specifically geared toward family audiences, is being staged at 3:00 p.m. touting the exceptional work students are doing through Inlet Educational Outreach Programming. Members of Inlet’s Youth Ensemble, the Inlet Trainee Program, and students from two residencies Inlet conducted at the Ashtabula Arts Center and Cleveland Heights High School’s Mosaic Experience will further demonstrate how Inlet is using dance to further people.

One of the region’s newest and most exciting professional contemporary dance companies, Inlet Dance Theatre creates and performs dance works with a high level of quality, skill, and innovation. Headed by Artistic Director/Founder Bill Wade, Inlet Dance Theatre uses the art form of dance to bring about personal development in the lives of individuals through training and mentoring, and speaks creatively about life and the issues we all face.
