Synopsis: 

King Hedley is the eighth work in the late two-time Pulitzer Prize winning
playwright August Wilson's 10-play cycle chronicling the history of the
African American experience in each decade of the twentieth century. It's
set in 1985 and tells the story of an ex-con trying to rebuild his life.
Peddling stolen refrigerators in the feeble hope of making enough money to
open a video store, King Hedley, a man whose self worth is built on self
delusion, is scraping in the dirt of an urban backyard trying to plant seeds
where nothing will grow. After spending seven years in prison, the title
character returns to a neighborhood gutted by Reaganism. Many critics have
hailed the work as a haunting and challenging tragedy of Shakespearean
proportions. Mr. Wilson is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winning author of
Fences, The Piano Lesson, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Joe Turner's Come and
Gone, Seven Guitars, Two Trains Running, Jitney and Radio Golf. His plays
have been produced all over the world. Karamu has staged seven of his
earlier works within the cycle some under Ms Smith's direction.

Character Breakdown: 

 KING, (King Hedley II), has a vicious scar running down the left side of
his face. Spent

Pittsburgh.
