as part of Playhouse Square's LAUNCH Series

Playhouse Square is featuring "Unbeatable" in its inaugural LAUNCH =20
series of Performance Creation Residencies. The musical explores how =20=
one woman's breast cancer ripples through her life and the lives of =20
everyone she loves. [See Full Synopsis below]
PRODUCTION HISTORY: The script was part of the New Works Festival =20
the Phoenix Theatre in Arizona in Summer of 2006, and will have a =20
reading there again in April, 2007, then come to Cleveland for =20
further fine-tuning and a national backer's audition, before moving =20
Off-Broadway in Fall of 2007.
Music rehearsals will begin May 30 - June 2,
with full rehearsals at Playhouse Square THE WEEK OF JUNE 4-10
concluding with TWO OR THREE PUBLIC PERFORMANCES/BACKER'S AUDITIONS =20
the weekend of June 10.
ALL ROLES ARE PAID POSITIONS.
Looking for Ten Actor/Singers of all ethnic types, Ages 25 - 65.
Equity and Non-Equity AUDITIONS will be held:

Please bring a head-shot and resume, and prepare a 1-2 minute "pop" =20
song (we'll have an accompanist there with an electric keyboard if =20
you have sheet music), and two 1-minute monologues -- one comic, one =20
dramatic. The show has a more pop flavor to it, as opposed to more =20
traditional Broadway show-tunes. The roles we're casting are as =20
follows:
Tracy -- A Woman who gets things done, Mezzo Soprano, A-Bb (up to D =20=
in mix), age 30's-40's.
Mom -- Tracy's mom, Mezzo Soprano, A-C, age 50's-60's
Prosecutor -- A Young Woman on a mission, of any singing range, age =20=
20's.
Brad -- Tracy's husband, Tenor/Bari can sing to an F, age 30's-40's
Ally -- Tracy's best friend, Alto but can belt and riff, soulful, =20
age 30's-40's
Pastor James -- A Man of Faith, Tenor can really sing it out up to =20
a G, age 40's
Meridith/Natalie/Dr. Louise -- Alto, young, fun, sings up to an =20
A, age early 30's
Ruthie/Dr. Ossman -- Mezzo Soprano, mature and big, age 50's-60's.
Preston/Western Doctor -- The Boss, Baritone, mature, can sing to D =20=
-- 40's-50's.
Pizza Guy/Holistic Doctor/AOL Tech -- Bari/Tenor can sing up to a =20=
F, ages 20's-early 30's.

UNBEATABLE: A MUSICAL JOURNEY
Synopsis
TRACY BOYD is a multi-tasker extraordinaire. She=92s driving her car, =20=
running profit-and-loss figures for her church, dropping off dry-=20
cleaning, planning her work calendar two years in advance =96 all while =20=
fielding phone calls from her jackhammer boss PRESTON, her best =20
friend ALLY, her worried MOM, her far-too-calm pastor JAMES, and her =20
sensitive-artist husband BRAD. It=92s just another day in her =20
perfectly balanced life=85
Until.
She gets the call from the hospital about her needle biopsy. She=92s =20=
got a tumor in her left breast.
And so begins her year-long dance with survival, faith, laughter and =20
terror. This is a woman who has been in control of her life forever =20
(=93The last time I was out of control was when I was 1-year-old. I =20
specifically learned to walk so it would never happen again.=94) Now =20=
she=92s facing a medical and emotional flood that could sweep all of =20
that away.
The play takes place in a surreal courtroom, where Tracy finds =20
herself defending her life-choices to a mysterious YOUNG PROSECUTOR =20
and presided over by her own mother (=93Mothers judge daughters, =20
sweetheart. It=92s what we do.=94 )
Through songs and scenes, Tracy will flashback to explore how she =20
spent the year after the discovery of the tumor. Did she truly LIVE =20
life once she knew the clock was ticking, or did she waste what may =20
be her last weeks on earth?
Along the journey she=92ll be lifted up by new friends NATALIE and =20
RUTHIE, fellow patients in the hospital=92s clinical trial (the songs =20=
=93Pricked, Poked, and Prodded=94 and =93Unbeatable=94), and her best =
friend =20
Ally will surprise them both by rising to the occasion with help both =20=
dietary (=93Supershake=94) and spiritual (=93Hold On To Love=94). Tracy =
will =20
face the undiscovered country of the medical establishment and drugs =20
for side-effects (=93Options=94 and =93Miss Chemo=94).
But her greatest challenge may be to keep her marriage alive as Brad =20
pulls away to defend himself against what he sees as inevitable =96 the =20=
loss of his one true love. Can both of them take the risk to reach =20
out, to gamble on love?
In the end =93Unbeatable=94 is a musical adventure about what it means =20=
not just to save time, but to spend it. We=92ll walk out of the =20
theatre inspired, re-connected to everyone around us, fully realizing =20=
that =93it=92s not when you die, it=92s when you live.=94
